Default 3-5 weeks California

Hello!

I keep myself short.

I am from Austria. My last study semester begins at the end of february.

I want to go to California for some weeks.
I have a friends in SF where I can stay for a few days, then I am on my own.
I primarily want to see the the major cities (SF, LA, maybe even San Diego).
Additionally I am a model and I want to introduce myself at agencies in these cities and talk about future business possibilities.

What kind of advice can you give me?
What about car rental?

I Know that California is relatively cheap at this time of the year, however I dont want to spend too much money.

Yesterday I registered at couchsurfing, I will upload my profile today.
I am interested in getting to know some people from the area before leaving Austria, so dont hesitate to contact me. (facebook, couchsurfing,...)

Hostelwordls.com was recommended to me some days ago, good source.

Thank you so far
I am happy for every piece of advice.
