I still haven't gotten completely in to the low information loop, and read my RSS daily. This came across today, and is something I have never even thought of, or even heard of for that matter. Evidently some hotels have a dollar rate as well as the local rate. Now even with a higher rate in Dollars, you might be saving money because of associated credit card fees, exchange rates, and such.

While this could be true for USD, I would have to disagree when dealing with the CAD $. In my experience Canadian banks have a very competitive exchange rate and no additional overseas fees (for Visa purchases). The rate given in local currency was generally much cheaper than the converted rate....but like anything your mileage may vary.

Cheers.

They have their own currency in Canada? (Hehe, being born in Minnesota, I do own two tuquea, so I can teas Canada some times.)

Jdlk - You might be totally right, especially these days with the Canadian dollar reaching parity with the US$ I was just trying to bring the idea to people's attention. Heck if depending on the hotel/exchange rate of where ever you are the $ rate might even be the more expensive option.
