Right now I am testing and have been doing so since Dec. 11. The site is: www.howtopersuadefriendsanddebatepeople.com. The URL's www.wineverydebate.com and www.winanydebate.com will also take you to the same site. I use the shorter URL's in the ads on Google because the long URL doesn't fit. Although I have not had a ton of people go to my site, a full 1/4 of them have gone to the second page which is good I think for an experiment in its early stages. When they get to the second page I think the high price is turning them off because I'm not getting a lot of sign-ups but that's okay. I can start to bring the price down to see what my price threshold is. The product is just getting edited now so it's not like I am in a big rush. The biggest problem I am having is coming up with good words or phrases for AdWords. Some that I think would be good are not turning out so well. And of course I can always improve my ads and get creative with them. But, putting together a good list of AdWords is my problem right now. I would not say I am ecstatic about my progress so far but I am not disappointed either. Since the product is not close to being finished yet and I am not strapped for time, this is giving me a good opportunity to get to know my market and what I need to do when the completion date is closer. And it has been VERY cheap to test. . .

Hi,

I really like your page. You have done a nice job on it. In fact, where did you get that template for the sales page? Did you just create it yourself? It looks nice!

A few notes:

I think you are bringing down the credibility (even for a test), with the hosted free by godaddy stuff. Buy an account from godaddy, and you can host as many domains as you want with one of their linux delux hosting accounts. thats what I do, and I have quite a few domains all hosted by this one account.
Why do you want to use the long URL? Why not make one of the shorter ones (wineverydebate . com) is that because you also want to make sure you are taking use of the Persuade part of this?

If you are just trying to make use of the Persuade part... I'd suggest marketing this one just for debate, and thats it. Persuasion is part of debate so there is no need to get rid of it, but just go after the debating part.

And then.... market the same product as a Persuasion product, and of course... part of persuading people is debating....

Did that make since? In other words, If I were you (and I am not, but I am a business coach that helps people start, grow, and automate small businesses), I would take this opportunity to market the same product to severla different markets:

Market 1 = people that like to debate
Sub Markets:
* General debating
* Debate teams for school
* Debate clubs
* Law students and Lawyers

Market 2 = people that want to learn the art of persuasion
Sub Markets:
* General persuasion skills
* Students wanting to learn persuasion to gain better grades
* Political activists needing to debate their causes
* Sales people
* Teachers need to persuade people all the time (pay attention, learn,etc)
* Clergy people ("provide better sermons, lessons, etc)

Well, thats just a few ideas, but I think you get the point... Repurpose a product as many times and as many ways as you can! and in the end, you will have better results for 2 reasons: 1. More targeted traffic to your site and product, 2. I guarentee the sum of all the specific markets put together will be larger than the one general product.

I hope this helps! And again, your page is nice and your product sounds great!

Of course, you dont have to take my word for it... I am just one person (an opinionated, experienced, business (muse) coach, but still just one guy).

Good luck! Keep us updated, I cant wait to see how it goes.

If you need other ways to market... I can help you with that too, when the time comes (google ads are great, but some free stuff would be better right?)

Make it a great day!
shane

I like your website. It's very clean and simple. Did you design it yourself?

Thanks for the opinions and the compliments guys. For my website creation, I used Applsoft at Elance.com. They are in India but have been excellent to work with. I got some ideas from a few other websites and gave the ideas to them.

vegaspua - can you tell us what the website development cost from your Elance helpers? That would be awesome to know. I'm considering outsourcing my site but using free WordPress right now.

I also like your site very much. I think it looks clean and professional. I have been learning about human communication for the last 15 years and I have a keen interest in persuasion. I use NLP and hypnosis a lot.

I would update the picture of yourself - the angle and coloring just seems to be a little bit less professional. You would look better in a straight-on headshot possibly on a lighter background. The picture really turns me off, to be perfectly honest.

I also agree you should bite the bullet and get rid of the free hosting. I paid $40 for a full year on an economy package with GoDaddy.

Who are you? The website really says nothing about you and I think you need to do a better job of persuading people to buy into YOU.

Really great start!!

As for adwords, why not use all the free keyword research tools out there to see what you can come up with?

My experience is that if you get 200 click-throughs, you will make one sale. Therefore you need to divide your selling price by $200 to figure out your break-even cost for advertising, and then divide by two again to figure a safe profit margin.

So at $80 you should pay no more than 20c per click on Adwords. That should be possible for your niche.

Thanks for the answer. Well, I also used the services from a provider found on Elance, but in this case they are in Argentina, and to be honest, I can't complain since the artwork is great.... http://thenetmencorp.com. You can keep this for future references!

See you around!
