Hey Guys,
Just wanted to contribute a bit of advice from my journey, I am no expert but my website (Now a PR4 in google) is getting steady sales and increasing traffic so thought I would give back a bit to the community to inspire those just starting.
I've built my muse around the service industry, have a full time VA to answer calls and freelance VA's to do the actual work. I would rather not disclose what I do due to fear of copying but I will tell you the steps in what I've done to generate a steady income stream of over 1k a month which I am in the process of scalling 10fold this year.
Create the website - don't be afraid to lose a hundred dollars for a cream of the crop outsourced website.
Do SEO yourself - (Crazy hey? counter-4HWW) But it will get you excited about your site and automating it, contact other websites and get them to link to you, aim for high PR website backlinks (you can view PR using the google toolbar), Including the press! Don't be afraid to contact the big players (Use 4HWW methods! Join associations, Get a VA to publish a report, volenteer information turn yourself bluechip overnight it is so easy it's ludicris!)
Use social media to track people down if needed, Ie: Linkedin.com is a great tool to find editors of local newspapers and such that you can contribute articles to and get backlinks (One article I had a VA create I sent to a major publication here in Aus and it consistantly generates 700 targetted hits a month from people who know I offer a paid service)
Play around with your wordings, try different things to get the conversions coming in. Offer a money back guarantee (I tried it with and without.. the only time I had to give money back was when I had a backlog of 20orders and my VA was off sick.) which brings me to my next bit of advice have a backup lol It is extrememly painful having orders come in you cannot fullfill so have guys trained up on the bench for when you need them and don't put all your eggs in one basket.
Most of all have fun! Once you can afford a full time VA, get her to call your mates, or even dates. Ordering dinner? Don't want to be on hold? skype: the usual please.
Cheers
Tom
