View Full Version : Thoughts on our "Thinking"

I'm hoping that people will share some on this post about how changing in their thinking has been beneficial to their success.
This would go along the lines of, who was it, I think it was Henry Ford but I could be wrong, "whether you think you can or think you can't, you're right".
Right now I'm working with the subtle but significant differences between "desire" and "expectation"......desire leading to wanting and grasping while expectation takes more of a sub-conscious role because it is not re-considered so much. It is akin to the differences between hope and commitment.
Anyway, I'd be curious to hear from others. Any good books to recommend as well?

Hi Reobulk,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and it's really interesting in what you said about the subtle differences between "desire" and "expectation".
Words can really make a huge difference in the way we live our lives.
The book Rich Dad Poor Dad had a huge impact on my life when I first read it back at university going back almost 10 years ago. The phrase or thought I picked up were:
"I can not afford it" to changing my mentally to "How can I afford it?"
Notice how the first phrase is a lazy mentally and one that just gives up, whereas the second one challenges you to think and look for opportunities.
I feel that you are on a similar path with "desire" and "expectation" and I could recommend by challenging yourself with questions of what do I expect rather than what do I desire. I see expect as already knowing the outcome and already seeing it happen and believe it to be reality.
My recommendation is to read Rich Dad Poor Dad if you haven't read it and it's good to just review the principles he talks about again.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.

Excellent, good feedback. Those are the differences I see as well and I put it into a daily practice.
Another interesting teaching is with "Ask and it is Given" by Hicks. Kind of hokey in the presentation but the material is spot on. This is all about mindwork and emotional development. The application to the 4HWW material is invaluable.
I'll PM you on another front.

Two books every person who desires to be successful must read !
#1 The Bible
#2 Think and Grow rich (by Napoleon Hill)

Let me add to that.. Most of what Robert Kiyosaki teaches as principles of success he got from Think and Grow rich (he says so himself) and in turn, the greatest ideas Napoleon Hill had, did not come from the 500 wealthy individuals he got to know over 20 years, but rather from the Holy Bible ..
So... the real wisdom is the one that you may have ignored the longest!
