When I read Tim's entry about learning Tango in Argentina and becoming a Champion Chinese Kick Boxer, I skimmed through it thinking, wow that was great for him but that's never something I'd do.
But then again, a lot of what Tim did I didn't think I could do...but following his advice and footsteps, here I am again. Tonight I'm having my first Professional Muay Thai Kickboxing match.
How I did it:
1. Read the 4-hour work week and became inspired.
2. Moved out to Thailand 14 months ago and started exercising and getting in shape.
3. Three months ago I started training in Muay Thai and loved it.
4. Started watching matches weekly trying to figure out the rules and how to use them towards my advantage to win.
5. Challenged the winner from the last match, "Big Boom" who beat a Swedish guy named Simon.
6. Realized that by having a date set for a fight, I'd train that much harder, and really push myself to the next level, which it did.

do these guys just fight anyone who challenges them? How did you get the fight set up?
congratulations. I enjoyed reading how you did this.
Any luck on automation? You should include that on your blog here.

I'm going to resist the urge to make a comment about hospitalization (I'm a smart @ss that way). Congrats man! And thanks for helping me get more excited to get moving and work on my race driving. One of my goals is to make it to Skip Barber Driving School this summer.

Oh shit, hey Johnny! I attended your PUA conference earlier this year. I was with the Badboy camp. What a coincidence you're a fan of the 4 hour work week too. Hope you did well in your match.

How to set up a fight with little or no experience:
I signed up for a Muay Thai gym here and started training for about 2 months - they have weekly fights and always have plenty of Thai's who want to fight but for marketing purposes, they sell a lot more seats when they have a Westerner fight a local thai.
In the Western World:
If you want to fight in the UFC or in a pro-boxing event, it'll be a lot of red-tape and a lot of work to set it up. The nice thing about other countries, especially Thailand is that it's easy for everyone.
How I did:
The fight went all 5 rounds, which I did not expect, and was not trained to do. I was lacking in stamina and endurance to go that long and ended up losing in decision by points. Now I know what to train for and have better aim for my future training and possible fights.
What I learned from the fight:
Having a real professional fight taught me lessons that I could have never learned otherwise. It is very easy to think one way through watching others do it, or even during training, but to actually get in the ring is a whole different story.
It's similar to reading the 4-hour work week and thinking it's possible or easy, to actually mustering up and moving to another country and living it.

Hey man, congrats on goin the distance, that's Im sure not easy to do on your first fight there Rocky Wolf.
You also have the advantage that you make American money, and therefore can pay for better coaching and equipment, etc.
I'd love to go see you, let me know when/where your next fight is, hopefully I'll be able to stop by and check it out. If you win, drinks on me. haha

Hi, great post.
I have recently got into Muay Thai, train in London at the minute. Me and my boyfriend are coming out to Thailand mid April, to train, live and develop our work.
We are booking one way tickets from the UK, gotta love making money online :)

Johnny! You are the biggest badass in this country right now mate! I finally tracked down your website, good to see you're still keeping it going, and congrats on the muay thai fight, hope you did well. We seriously GOTTA get together one of these days. I just did 2 trips down to Ao Nang/Railay in the last month (one for vacation, then one because my sister came to visit me for a last-minute trip!)
Maybe next month I'll be back down there.

Very cool man! You had a lot of nice controlled punches in his face, no wonder it got too much for him!
Very inspiring.
