New Guy saying Hello

I just got this book for Christmas today.. though I had seen and read parts of it in the bookstore. I did want to say hello and hopefully stay active in this group!
and perhaps grow some partnerships

However I am really interested in finding how to hire and use a VA.. though at first I just need some simple tasks.. (Research and compile data) and maybe have them do some affiliate work for a website (post links and info) and maybe other personal tasks I need done on the net.. This way I can test the waters with a VA...

Any good suggestions for one that can do this for 5-10 hours a month at around $4-$5 an hour? I have seen Odesk and used it as a worker looking for work.. But whats better? Odesk or Elance for what I am asking?

Elance is a good start but you have to find the right person and give the right orders.

Otherwise getfriday or timsvr are other options.

I am currently using Odesk and had about 70 applications for one.. everywhere from about 86c an hour to 14.77 an hour.

They have tests for excel, english and others you can get a good idea on the skills. I did try one out for $1 and hr but I was not impressed with his excel skills and still had to do some work. But I admit he was eager to work and learn.
