Has anyone attempted to create a muse and move tot he testing step, only to find that there is no registered searched for the consumer item/good?
This could mean 2 things I guess:
1) There is absolutley no demand for this product and the $500 test will flop and go no where.
2) There will be huge demand once some PPC marketing does begin, because the idea has never been invented/taken to market.
OPinions/Comments please?

Market research should come first. If there aren't already a lot of people searching for something tightly related to your product, it's not even worth doing a PPC test. Find the audience first, then fit the product to the audience.

Fair, however if there is no "tightly related" product - how can you test?
If there is quite literally no comparable product nor other items to search based on, how does one test?

Think about who would buy your product and where they would be. Then stick an advertisement there. If the market simply doesn't exist or is too small, however, you're probably better off to not test at all and try something else.

Take one step back and think about what those people - your target demographic - would have been so interested in before that they've spent money on it ... if it's really that revolutionary, no real testing can be the first step, you need to determine wheter there is a market potential and then find out what these people buy.
Next you could advertise on those objects and build a list in that market of, let's say, 200 people, and then throw the offer their way and see if they respond.
Sadly, 8 out of 10 revolutionary products are just not out there yet because the concept has a flaw that the inventor just not sees yet, but will hit somewhere down the road. Your probability of hitting a gold vein of course increases with the amount of time you've spent in the entrepeneurial mindset.

I wonder if it would be worth my while making a test advertisment and putting it on ebay for this product, and seeing if people/how many people bid on it.
I know that the intention of the ebay test is for price sensitivity - however mabye it would work for this too.
Should I protect my product idea somehow prior to putting it up on ebay as a product?
Put it this way: target demographic for supplements like the one I am thinking is age 20-35 and is one of those items like; hoodia, etc. Popular supplements that are all natural.
Can you elaborate on what you mean when you say "advertise on those objects and build a list in that market of, let's say, 200 people, and then throw the offer their way and see if they respond"
Thanks in advance
