I'm a new member and corporate escapee. I need some constructive criticism on www.FitHeads.com. Specifically - what you don't like - what would keep you from buying. (We're getting decent traffic in our tests, but little conversion). Happy to get positive input too.

A little background: I and my partner (another escapee) have developed a process and product (The FitHeads System) that we believe will be an important part of the solution to our health crisis. It really works at motivating people to commit to - and live - a healthier lifestyle. But in our tests so far we haven't found the formula to get people to buy. Need the benefit of your wisdom.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Congrats on taking action and at least getting in the game. That's more than most will ever do.

The first yellow flag is that you lead in with a survey type question. Surveys are generally terrible converters.

The second, bigger problem is that this page does not really make a compelling offer anywhere on it. The headline does not grab you, nor does it really say much about the product. There are a bunch of vague claims, but you would expect those results from any fitness system. I'm guessing most people are bouncing off the page in 10s or less without really having any idea what your product is. The top info marketers lead with their best technique and have a hard hitting headline that sparks a gut-level emotional response.

Also, what are you qualifying as decent traffic? You need thousands of visitors before you start to have anything statistically relevant.

Thanks for the input. We've had a few hundred visits in response to each of several tests. Are you saying we need a few thousand for each test?

It's hard to say exactly how many visits is enough. Some people new to the game are like "I'm getting tons of visitors" and they've got like.. 100 total. Generally you've got to consider that first time out of the gate your conversion rate is probably going to be less than 1%. So if you've got 300 visitors for example, you may only get 1-3 actions if any. If your conversion rate is only .3%, then you're only talking 0-1 conversions off of 300 visits on average. The 1000 number is not a hard and fast rule, but you start getting close to something you can talk about once you pass it. Depending on what you're selling, your conversion rate may never get much better than 1%.

I think the website looks great, but I've got to ask about the name - right off the cuff, it just... hit me the wrong way. Why did you decide to call it FitHeads? Maybe it feels wrong because Fathead is an insult and FitHeads sounds similar, but I'm not sure.

I do have to say the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the name was the life-sized sports poster fatheads that used to be all over tv commercials.

Two-part concept on the FitHeads name. First - a key differentiator for this product is that it changes your thinking so that you'll stick with your fitness plan. Only 8% of people who start any exercise program succeed with it. The main reasons are psychological. We address them all. "You can't have a fit body without a fit head."

Second is all the research that contradicts the old "dumb jock" stereotype. i.e. exercise improves cognitive function.

So - do you think the name adds value, or is it too abstract?

Thanks, FitHead Mark

I rather like Fitheads. It wouldn't hurt to have a section or box that said, "why are we called fitheads?" and have your explanation. It's a name with a concept which is the way it's supposed to be.

hey mark,

overall i like the site, however i will agree with some past posters here and say its really not compelling me enough to pull the trigger and buy. i would definately get rid of the "add to cart" button and replace it with something else a touch more exciting as well. i also like the video you have, it does alot of explaining about your product. but can i ask why you have it buried at the bottom of your page???? put that thing up at the top and have it auto-play! i would be happy to help you further if you would like or have any other questions. feel free to email me or pm me!

You have a good start but it's not compelling enough yet. How to do that takes quite a bit of research and time. For example, "A new approach to healthy living." doesn't offer enough of an incentive or benefit to encourage me to dig deeper. You have to get in the minds of your target before you can find the trigger that will inspire them to feel like they can't live another day without knowing more.
