View Full Version : Who wants to share an idea for a $500-1000/month Muse?

Most of the people on this forum have a TMI above $5000 USD/month. I was wondering if any of you want to share an idea for a $500-$1000 muse even if it requires more than 4 hours a week.
I'm sure many of you here may have had a not so profitable muse or two in the past but you simply decided to forget about it and focus on more profitable muses. Can you share any ideas on those not so profitable muses??
Thanks!!

Why don't you make the process of using 'discarded muses' your own muse ?
I thought I'd seen everything....

Why don't you make a valuable contribution to this thread instead of posting some unnecessary remark that says more about your personal frustrations than about the 4HWW? :D

Actually it's because I have something going that I hate to see people ask for handouts like this.
Best of luck if your attitude towards life is anything like this :D

Why would someone who's opposed to the sharing of support, advice, information and ideas on a public forum decide to sign up at this forum and then post some sarcastic remark revealing his deep insecurities, lack of interpersonal skills and mediocre business skills?
Any psychologists out there who can offer an explanation to this interesting anti-social behavior in a forum that's supposed to serve the interests of intelligent, civilized, cordial business people?

To shed some light on your question, the thing is, even though you might have 5-10 discarded muse ideas for every successful one, you end up using some of your discarded ideas when you have a successful one that pulls off.
In other words, it all adds up, it all depends how you look at it.
Gosh, I've tried posting a fitting reply. I can't do it. But I'm with clanshrapnel on this. Why on earth would I give away muse ideas? Dantplayer is spot on.

Actually, I have a few ideas that are on the back burner. Business plans, marketing plans, and the general logistics in place. I just haven't had the time to deal with them. A few are extensions of what I am doing here in Japan. I though it was a reasonable request. I would be happy to take a 10% cut, leaving the lion share for the person doing the initial work.
But when the guy asking comes back with a lame cop out of an answer like the following...

You should know better. Especially in regards to a regular poster like Clan. Anti-social behavior? Nothing of the sort here, and it is pathetic that you even mention it. A clear indicator that you do not have the mettle to survive the 4HWW. Go back to your day job with the 'cordial business people' and spread that inane crap around there.
Yup!
And a forum is not suposed to serve anyone. It merely exists because of people wanting to exchange information. If people do not want to give info back there is something "wrong" or wrong with the question.
If you want it answered, make the question inviting. This one clearly wasn't...

True! My question was directed to those "wanting" to exchange information. I wasn't trying to convince anyone to provide me with ideas. Again, my question was directed to intelligent businessmen who were willing to provide useful information that they didn't need anymore and wanted to share with others.
I have always believed that when you help others just for the satisfaction of it, not for the money, good things happen to you. This is also a proven business principle that I have confirmed countless times.
For example, sometimes I have been asked by a potential or existing client to do a small job for him or I've spent 1 hour of my time talking to him on the telephone teaching him how to do something on his computer.
Most web professionals would charge you for this but I don't. I simply do it because of the satisfaction of helping people and because I know that when you do good things, good things happen to you.
Many of these potential or existing clients have then hired me for larger projects later on. Then they say that they chose me because I seemed more interested in helping them than in emptying their pockets like all the others.
Needless to say, these clients never object to my prices and they remain loyal, even if someone offers them a better price for the same project.
A genuine interest in helping other people is always a good attitude to develop. You do not lose anything by sharing an idea that you don't need, a muse that didn't met your TMI and that you decided to abandon. Yo do not lose anything by giving a dollar to a homeless person on the street. You do not lose anything by giving your clients 200% of what they paid for. You only WIN.
Unfortunately, most people in the West, especially the new generations weren't taught these values but their actual opposites: "be greedy", "do not share anything with others", "take their money and run", "do not care about others, care only about you", "exploit others", "make war to others", "be rude to others". The lack of appreciation of human values and their replacement with material values is what has led to the decline of many "first world countries", as well as to all the problems they have caused in the world such as war, poverty, hunger, exploitation, disease.
If people do not want to give info back there is something "wrong" or wrong with the question.
"Everything popular is wrong" ~ Oscar Wilde (It's in the book somewhere)
I expected that most people would not like the question nor contribute with anything constructive. I also expect most new businesses to fail (it's a proven fact most new businesses will fail within 2 years). Most people do not think outside the box like Tim and a few others do. So, I don't care if most people consider there's something wrong with my question because there isn't.

I think I'm going to let this conversation flesh out more but we're on thin ice here, waltzing in the gray area in regards to forum rules.
Cut the sweeping generalizations, the insults, and stick to the topic at hand. And I'm speaking to everyone as a group. Nothing is to be gained from catty behavior that is usually, if I might digress to a sweeping generalization of my own, typical of teenage girls.

I don't know if this is a helpful reply.
Muses sometimes take a long time to realise their potential. And you won't necessarily find just one killer one.
I had a website that was earning around $10-20/month for a long time until this year it started to do closer to $100-200/month (some months it still does $10-20 month). I did nothing special - just added the odd link to it every couple of months (and it took around 1/2 day to build - no ongoing maintenance either).
I've had other stuff - like cafepress tees - never earn more than $10-20/month but there's zero ongoing effort on my part (took a couple of hours to design the tees though).
I think many are in the same boat ie having a few muses which earn little individually but it all adds up and with a few you might get lucky enough to make a breakthrough.
So a $500/month muse is actually quite valuable - particularly if it takes little effort to maintain it. And, personally, I'd rather have 10 X $500/month muses than just one $5000/month as it's safer not to have all of your eggs in one basket. And let's not forget - $500 goes quite far in many parts of the world.
Perhaps that's why you haven't had many helpful replies so far. That said - I'm sure there are people (including myself) who have ideas which providing you can demonstrate you can use them and would consider giving back some kind of return would be happy to share.

Here is an idea for anyone starting their first muse. Or even their second.
Forget about the money for a moment. Make something of value. You will not get anywhere if your focus is on the money. Paying attention to something and focusing on something are two different things. Always pay attention to money, but don't make it your sole driving focus.
In regards to the cattiness.. it all comes down to one thing. Phrase your question better if you don't want nasty replies. Read your post through 3 times before you hit submit...

I created a sports med site and it is a slow build because I'm getting articles from health professionals which takes a while. I also am reviewing products and not just picking the top sellers but researching them and asking doctors and athletes. It made very little for a while and now it's making about $150-$200. I should write some articles and I can do that, I've just had a full plate lately.
So I have to agree with JKohlbach. Start something with an eye on making it really a good quality resource first with an idea how you plan to monetize it. And at least put some effort into it regularly instead of full steam ahead and you might find that it inches up nicely.
