View Full Version : Ready to launch my muse
Hi guys,
this is my first post here, in fact its only about the 3rd post I have ever written, so please excuse any mistakes on my part.
Written an ebook on marketing aimed at a very specific industry, so whilst a marketing ebook is not a new idea, the ideas in my book a extremely tailored to the potential readers.
Bought a domain £8
set up a paypal account - free
web site (free - web designer friend doing it)
ebook created from word to pdf file (free - as above)
so grand total spent so far, £8
Looking around the forum here, I have seen posts by other people suggesting software I have never heard of and dont really understand.
I am very lucky to have a database of 30,000 potential customers I can email (thats why I wrote the book, I had a distribution channel but no product).
My thoughts were to email the database, any buyers could pay using payay. Once their payment was received I could email them a link and they could download the pdf.
The only flaw I could see was them freely distributing the pdf amongst collegues.
Am I being to simplistic and has anyone got any help they can offer?

No, you're not too simplistic. Sounds good. A 30k people list is HUGE. You'll probably make some money even if you're just sending out one email blatantly selling the ebook. What's your suggested pricing btw?
Unless they all know each other, passing it around won't be that much of an issue.
If you can, I'd work out a monthly recurring programm that you can bundle with the ebook. Like, where you give more marketing advice, case studys/hot seats, interviews, that sort of thing. Make it a low level monthly recurring fee (like 20 Bucks or something) and you're set for a nice chunk of monthly income with only a minimum of work required.
Hi, really appreciate you taking the time to post a reply, thanks.
yes, really lucky to have that list and intend to make the most of it. Unfortunately they are all mortgage brokers so on the one hand they are probably having a very tough time but on the other hand, they may really need to have the ideas I have suggested which have come from 20yrs experience.
My wife and I have been struggling with the price as these guys in the UK, unlike their american counter-parts, are very reluctant to spend money. I know because I have been serviceing that industry for about 12yrs now, so we are doing an "introductory offer" of £12.99, your thoughts.
Thanks for the suggestions, will really give them a lot of consideration.

I honestly don't know. This is business-relevant information, after all. I don't know about recent developements of living costs in the uk, but 12.99 in € is less than two tickets to a bigger cinema on friday or saturday night over here in germany.
Some of them may be reluctant to buy, maybe even the majority, but you'd be doing a decent amount of money with .5% conversion.
What do you personally think the information is worth? If you have friends in the industry, during five minutes of explaining and doing the math for some examples, how much more would they guess that they or people in the industry in gerneral could make applying your strategies?
Of course solid numbers are hard to gauge, but minimum income increases are usually easier to predict, at least in terms of the number of digitis before the decimal. Rule of thumb: It's always hard and yet never really impossible to quantify earnings increases if you look hard enough at creating scenarios.
If your information isn't worth a hundred dollars or more, go ahead, sell it at that price. If it's worth more than a few hundred dollars a month to a prospect fully applying everything, going below 37gbp is a waste of bytes, imho.
If it is usually worth hundreds but can be worth thousand(s) a month, 77+ is not asked too much. Internet Marketing programms with decent information are sold anywhere from a few hundred to 3000 Dollars per unit.
Adjusting to your perception of the attitude of a crowd before you even tried doing it *your way* is equal to declaring defeat before you even get started.
One thing that really bothers me is: You can't possibly convey real value with such a low price, I'm afraid. You'll rather most likely attract the kind of buyers who (like me 3 years ago, back when I wasn't making any money) rather spent an hour trying to find a source to download your stuff then handing over the 13 bucks to get it immediatly.
Thanks again for your views, really got me thinking now.....
