Admittedly, I didn't have a good experience when using Elance.
I created a project and got bids....but the winning bidder didn't and couldn't perform. The effort was a waste of time.
It would be nice to know the approach that works to get a good contractor with Elance and at the same time not have to pay too much......some of the contractors bid crazy prices......
Please advise.
Also, if anyone has info on a good web hoster please let me know......I was with oneandone.com but they misconfigured my htacces and I stopped getting visits......
Thanks

Elance isn't all that great imo, but certainly has it's uses.
I would use Elance to have them do a simple research project to put together all the names of good (preferably good size) firms that can do the web development.
Elance is good for basic data entry/research/admin stuff, etc. Though the companies on Elance aren't big or impressive enough for a big project imo.

Hi,
I own a web consulting company....
and we have a partner in India we
have used and trust. I will either
handle your project for you or pass
you their info... PM me. I don't pass
along the information that freely
because, like I said... well, I own a
company where we do this... and
it is transparent to our customers
and dont want to change that.
by the way... some have said elance
is not that great... AND, they are
right... sometimes. It can be very
difficult to get what you want from
freelancers in other countries.
All of them have different cultural
aspects that need to be considered....
for instance, in India, they really like
to please and dont like confrontation...
which sounds like a good thing... until
you realize that as you tell them
what you want, if they have questions,
they are sometimes afraid to let you
know that.
They only want to please you by
saying, yes... we can do that... yes,
I understand.... when really they may
not quite get it.
It is VERY important to be very clear
in what you want, and also understand
that you should ask them to repeat
back to you what they want... and
how they will implement it before they
even start. Also have checkpoints along
the way to ensure they are on track
to meet your objectives.
Hope this helps!
Make it a great day!
