Does anyone know how to post the same ad in multiple locations without it getting blocked?

You can, just change the words around, I've been able to run 2 or 3 consecutively at the same time this way - creativity could get you more!

And a good point, this is a great free place to sell, if you are diligent. Posts fall off of the top of the list quickly in big cities...

I've done that too, but it could take all day to populate the whole country like I see some people doing.

I seem to remember reading somewhere online about software that can get around all the headaches and do it for you... (possible muse for one of you genius programmers?)

Actually, create several different email accounts, have them all forward messages to your primary email. Craigslist detects when you use the same email so for every new ad you have to use a new one.
The easiest is to do it like this
Scoobydooby1@gmail.com
Scoobydooby2@gmail.com, etc, etc.

Its a little time consuming to set up a few email accounts and have them all forward to your primary (so you can activate the ads, you dont want to go into each of your email accounts activating the ads), but once you set it up it wil be a breeze.
