Hello lads and lasses. This post is intended as a morsel, a sugar high and respite. Life is serious enough, so this post will require zero calories of brain power.

Not to worry, of course, as we’ll be back to our regular content with the next how-to post.

In the meantime, some goodies: the “Kimono” winners and a $1,000 travel voucher giveaway.

KIMONO SPOTS

Congratulations, after much tallying and consideration, to the winners of the $10,000 spots to the “Opening the Kimono” event! Please keep an eye on your inbox for follow-up details:

- Sheila McCarthy (votes)
- Jacqueline Biggs (“wild card” views)

First, sincere thanks to all who submitted video case studies, even those who re-submitted old videos and therefore weren’t eligible. Second, HUGE thanks to Dustin “America’s Trainer to the Moms” Maher for making the “wild card” scholarship possible — you rock!

Three honorable mentions for the “wild card” seat are below (out of dozens of great videos), and one includes a pic of me drunk at my London book launch. Oh, Internet, you hurt so good T_T

Two of them highlight post-4-Hour Workweek (now 2,172 reviews!) travel adventures:

$1,000 TRAVELOCITY TRAVEL VOUCHER — GIVEAWAY DETAILS

Alright, moving on…

I wanted to have some fun and get people traveling. “But I can’t travel… it costs too much!” is a common refrain. Partnering with a new start-up called PunchTab, I wanted to remove this barrier.

Here’s how it will work, as PunchTab explains:

Entering the giveaway is simple and takes only 30 seconds. Register by connecting to the giveaway widget below using Facebook. For each step you complete, you’ll earn a giveaway entry:

1. Like this blog post by clicking on the Facebook Like button (+1 entry).
2. Become a fan of Tim Ferriss on Facebook (+1 entry).
3. Leave a comment telling me where you’ll go and what you’ll do there (+1 entry).
4. Tweet about the giveaway (+1 entry).
5. Unlimited bonus entries by pasting your invite link everywhere you can. For example:

- For every friend who clicks the invite link you Tweeted in step 4, you’ll earn +1 entries.
- For every friend who then joins the giveaway, you’ll earn +5 entries.

Giveaway ends June 30, 2011 at midnight PST. Open to residents of North America.

Enjoy! Attack! Discuss!

If I win, I’d use the Travelocity points to visit, and actually move, to New Jersey. I’ve been considering the move for some time, but cannot travel back and forth to find a place and then move because I’m in Florida (too costly of a process). These additional points would help the overall cost of the initial moving process.

My first choice would be to take my parents to Scotland and Ireland. It’s been a dream of theirs for many years. After much research on our family history, my father has found that we are descendants of the Cambell Clan in Scotland. He also uncovered that Robert the Bruce was a relative of the Cambells. This was amazing to learn about, and I would love to give this opportunity away to them to realize their dream.

My other choices include a tour of South America starting in Costa Rica and ending in Buenos Aires. Also, I’ve been researching my lifelong dream of traveling to SE Asia and exploring The Great Wall of China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. This trip would be at least 6 months long so I could take in all of it’s mysteries and beauty.

Good luck to everyone and safe travels to the winners!

I was researching a family trip to Disneyland when I saw this pop up on Facebook.

Odd timing? Fate? You decide! -coupled with the fact of how OUTRAGEOUS ticket prices to Disneyland are and the number of kids we have made (3) This contest is coming at a perfect time. $979 is the cost for the 3day park hopper tickets we were planning on purchasing. If that doesn’t work out the voucher will also be a drop in the bucket toward our future plans to move to NZ (as soon as we are done reading the Four hour body (lost 20 lbs so far! 4th cheat day coming up on Saturday) and the Four Hour work week.

Thank you for your consideration! Off to eat more eggs/spinach/lentils.

After reading 4HWW for the first time, I decided I would make a plan to visit the Greece monasteries. I am not a religions man, but there is something about these places that holds a childish fascination to me. The Holy Monastery of Rousanou/St. Barbara is the single place on this Earth that I would travel to if I was ever given one and only one opportunity to travel across the world.

    Hey Tim,

If I win, I would love to go to Brazil with my 6 1/2 year old daughter. We saw the movie, Rio, a couple of weeks ago and she said, “Mom, I want to go there!” I already had the travel bug but it was the first time my girl expressed it. Very exciting! As for what we would do: I would love to teach her how to body surf, connect with the kids, taste new spices and food and feel the thrill of being in a different culture and loving it! And of course, we would have to pay a visit to Christ the Redeemer (it’s on my must-see list).

    Thanks for the opportunity,

I’d head to the mountains of Mexico. I live in Cleveland and while we are here in the midst of summer, come October/November the days grow short and the clouds get gloomy. My wife and I finally figured out that I am strongly affected by SAD. Wintering on the plains of Colorado a couple of years ago proved the theory. This year I’m planning on Mexico…the biggest expense, of course, is getting there by air. This would make all the difference, doncha know.

hahaha Tim my apologies re: drunk pic but you knew it would surface some day :P

What we need now is footage of you downing 2010 Argentinian Vintage in Wine County like a dry man in the desert, correct?

Congrats to contestants, there were really some awesome finalist submissions. As a somewhat private person in real life I know how it’s like to put your face out there and push your comfort zone to make something like this. It certainly pushed mine…

The real challenge was finding out about the contest for the first time only 48 hours prior to deadline and meeting the 2k view counts to even be eligible LOL (barely!). I knew this particular video wasn’t going to win based on view count alone, but I did it anyway to challenge myself and also learned a few new things on video marketing, so it was still worth it…

In the last few hours of the post going up I’ve received a few emails asking how I got started. So here’s the original unlisted and unedited version I made that explains more of my story, exclusive for 4HWW fans:

    http://bit.ly/mN6rxB

This was never previously published because it was a little long for the purposes of this contest, but it does go a little more into my background and how I began…

Thank you for the honorable mention (despite the photo LOL). I’m sure it’s going to be a great event. Wish I could be there, but will have to just live vicariously through you other lucky buggers ;)

    cheers
    Vince

Lately my whole life has changed and I’m no longer held back by some obstacles I had until now, and also recently I’ve been questioning a few times why I got started in my business in the first place. It’s time for a reset, and to reexamine my business and my commitment to the people I set out to help. I’ve been enjoying Krabi, Thailand, for the last 9 months but I’ve let myself slip quite a bit. I’d take the $1,000 to spend the next 3-6 months in Bali, find a nice quiet place tucked away somewhere with a little solitude, and work on centering back on my mission, getting my business back on track in the right direction, working on self improvement, and aligning once again with what I’m truly all about.

Depending on the responses from each place I would go to Vietnam, Kazahkstan, Albania or Nigeria and use the trip not just for sightseeing but as a chance to further my approach and ideas for increasing cultural integration in international English based education. These are three areas where there is a strong focus in English language education but little to no attention given to the cultural gap leaving the students of their system culturally outside the western world despite their education. (While I’m overseas at the moment I’m still a US resident.) The other place I really want to go would be India – that would be more for fun and only a little bit of career development. Where ever it would be up I’d couchsurf my way across the country.

    Hi

I would take my children across Europe by train into Italy (I am from the UK!) and go visit Pompeii, Rome (again!) and the Amalfi coast. I would love to hire a boat as well and cruise round the coast – oh and learn how to handle the boat so I could go back and do it myself next time.

I have always loved Japan, Japanese Culture, and it’s language. Deep down in a way I could never explain. I have always dreamed of travelling there to see the country and the temples and hopefully discover the connection I feel I have with it.

I would meet people, speak as much with people as I can and learn about their lives. I would hope to find a way to connect what I do and love with people there in some way. Maybe I would find a way to help others in a way I don’t know how yet.

The last wilderness. Serenely frozen yet a maelstrom of storms. Buried Atlantis? The cold and white twists reality, morphing size, distance, shape and horizon. A rock looks like a faraway mountain. Pilots fly upside down without realizing it! Mummified animals look recently dead but are thousands of years old! A compass doesn’t know where to point and time stands still. What a glorious change from our over-scheduled lives.

Bad wind conditions killed my last attempt. While there I would use your language learning techniques to take my Portuguese from conversational to 95% fluent.

Could be a children s hospital in Argentina or in a low income community in the Appalachian mountains. Spending time with her , helping others and teaching her compassion and life isn’t about your hair, make up, mtv and for God sakes, Jersey Shore. It would be a win – win. Thank you so much.

He knew how much I liked both architecture, nature and food! that would be the perfect place for me, he said. We wanted to drive up there with our travel trailer and spend a couple of weeks. We planned for years and had finally decided on going on the summer of 2009, but during the fall of 2008 he was diagnosed with ALS. By June of 2009, he had died. Going to Montreal would be both my husband’s and my dream.

We’ve been physically together for 12 months and the other 18 months or so we’ve had to be apart. Finally she will be coming later this summer on a fiance visa and we’ll get married in October!

Well after we get married we can’t leave the country cause of her visa. So we’ll have to honeymoon in the US and we thought Hawaii would be perfect. We’ve both never been.

We will definitely enjoy the beach, the blue waters, and see the beautiful sights of the many islands of Hawaii! Not having to be apart anymore is the best gift. The second best would be if we won the $1,000 voucher.

While Oktoberfest alone I suspect would be an absolute 2-week blast, I’d like to see some of the European countryside, as well. So I’m thinking a trip to Munich for a few days of beer, food, beer, music and beer, then hitting the train for a couple of days to let my liver recover and my mind take in a relaxing trip to Luxembourg or Paris or Zurich before flying home. Or maybe that in reverse. Itinerary: flexible.

Regardless, I’d expect to come back content with about a billion pictures, a few new stamps in the ol’ passport and a new appreciation for how beer is _supposed_ to be.

I’d go to Costa Rica and earn my Yoga instructor certificate whilst learning Spanish fluently.

I would then take my knowledge to Brazil and take salsa/flamenco classes that would complement my bellydance knowledge so that I could teach women here in the US how to fully actualize their feminine power through a beautiful, integrated, and global art form. (Their business would follow, naturally.)

I mean, could she balance tequila shots on each buttock while doing arm undulations? Teach them to be free of the need for a man’s undivided attention and you have given them the gift of personal autonomy.

When I was 15 years old my family emigrated to Boston, MA, USA and to this day I have not been able to pay that promise. I would use it as an opportunity to finally learn how to surf. While I live 20 minutes from the ocean where I live, I want to go someplace known, particularly west coast or Hawaii or wherever, for it’s surf culture and be totally immersed in it and cap it off by getting lessons.

Since I am able to remote work, if I *had to*, I’d be able to get in some work between surf lessons and, possibly, dance lessons. However, the less I must do, and the more I want to do, the better!

I would also use the voucher when I can use it as a reward for losing 100lbs*. While I’m not there yet, I have I figure 6-7 months until I reach that goal thanks to the 4HB…which should give me plenty of time to figure out exactly what else I’d like to do while I’m surrounded by surf culture.

*I was once at my ideal weight after losing 100lbs 7 years ago, gained it all back in the past 2 years. Pre-4HB and pre-4HWW, now I’ve got my bearings in order and carving the life I want, not the life I’d haphazardly fallen into.

I would go to Memphis, Tenn see the National Civil Rights museum. Then I would take a train or a MIssissippi riverboat cruise to New Orleans. If time permits, I would visit Savannah Georgia and Tybee Island. Each destination offers a different side of Southern living (and southern cuisine)
