The New Book Unveiled: The 4-Hour Body 1,123 Comments

Data crunching back to age 18. Three years of organizing self-experiments around the world. Thousands of blood tests and hundreds of case studies.
My new book is finally here: The 4-Hour Body.
I could not be happier with the end product. Truly, I am ecstatic.
If you want a minimalist guide to hacking the human body, this is it.
In each chapter (more than 50 topics total), I test everything on myself so you don’t have to. In “Reversing ‘Permanent’ Injuries,” for example, I tested the moderate options like over-the-counter supplementation and Feldenkrais, but I also imported stem-cell growth factors from Israel and had them injected. That was just for starters. The end result of that chapter? 90%+ of the injuries that plagued me for decades are now gone. I’m stronger and faster than I was at age 20.
If you want to know the two safe things out of 100 that worked abnormally well, I can tell you…
The 4-Hour Body is also designed to read unlike any diet or fitness book, which it isn’t. It’s more like a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book for the human body, full of ridiculous stories, practical philosophies, and larger-than-life characters.
Here’s the back cover description:
THINNER, BIGGER, FASTER, STRONGER… which 150 pages will you read?
Is it possible to:
Reach your genetic potential in 6 months?
Sleep 2 hours per day and perform better than on 8 hours?
Lose more fat than a marathoner by bingeing?Indeed, and much more. This is not just another diet and fitness book.
The 4-Hour Body is the result of an obsessive quest, spanning more than a decade, to hack the human body. It contains the collective wisdom of hundreds of elite athletes, dozens of MDs, and thousands of hours of jaw-dropping personal experimentation. From Olympic training centers to black-market laboratories, from Silicon Valley to South Africa, Tim Ferriss, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The 4-Hour Workweek, fixated on one life-changing question:
For all things physical, what are the tiniest changes that produce the biggest results?
Thousands of tests later, this book contains the answers for both men and women. From the gym to the bedroom, it’s all here, and it all works.
YOU WILL LEARN (in less than 30 minutes each):
- How to lose those last 5-10 pounds (or 100+ pounds) with odd combinations of food and safe chemical cocktails.
- How to prevent fat gain while bingeing (X-mas, holidays, weekends)
- How to increase fat-loss 300% using temperature manipulation
- How Tim gained 34 pounds of muscle in 28 days, without steroids, and in four hours of total gym time
- How to sleep 2 hours per day and feel fully rested
- How to produce 15-minute female orgasms
- How to triple testosterone and double sperm count
- How to go from running 5 kilometers to 50 kilometers in 12 weeks
- How to reverse permanent injuries
- How to add 150+ pounds to your lifts in 6 months
- How to pay for a beach vacation with one hospital visitAnd that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There are more than 50 topics covered, all with real-world experiments, many including more than 200 test subjects.
You don’t need better genetics or more discipline. You need immediate results that compel you to continue.
That’s exactly what The 4-Hour Body delivers.
Now The Real Fun Begins
Here we go:
1) The ask
2) Big media opportunities for you
3) An offer to friends in media.
THE ASK:
I try not to ask for too much on this blog, but today I will ask a favor: if this book sounds interesting to you, please take a moment to order it today. I’ve never worked harder on something, it’s my sophomore act, and pre-orders are critically important in the publishing world.
The book is on-sale now but will ship on December 14th. Here’s why you should pre-order now:
- You will not be charged for the book(s) until they ship in December, but ordering (really like reserving) a copy now really, really helps me.
- What would make a better X-mas gift? My dad lost more than 70 pounds using two chapters. Please consider getting a few copies for your family, loved ones, or best friends. I promise that they will not be disappointed. Ordering now means you can’t forget.
- Last but not least, your help would mean the world to me. Pre-orders will largely determine how much support retailers give this book. It’s crazy, but only hardcover sales count towards the bestseller lists. If you’ve benefited from my last book or writing on this blog, I would really appreciate your help. This has been the biggest project of my life.
The 4-Hour Body is available on Amazon, BN.com, and these online retailers.
Thank you!
BIG MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES:
Have you lost weight, gained muscle, or otherwise changed your body as a result of blog posts I’ve written? If so, you could be featured on major TV and in big mainstream media. Please e-mail your details and (important, if you have them) pictures to jenny.rabun-at-gmail-dot-com. No professional before-and-after pics needed, but something that shows your before and after appearance, even in normal clothes, is helpful to producers.
Ladies — that means you, too! Help a brother out, and help your sisters out, by sharing your stories!
TO MEDIA, BLOGGERS, AND LIST OWNERS:
I’ve made very few media commitments thus far. Do you have a column, show, mailing list, or blog audience? Would you like to do a feature, an interview, or post an excerpt? Please click here to let me know. There is a ton of material, including case studies, video, and pictures.
Upward and Onward
Thank you all so much for the last three years. It’s been incredible.
The best is yet to come
Tim

Tim, I just pre-ordered your book and look forward to reading it. I have your other book too. You have a ridiculous amount of ambition and motivation. I don’t know how you keep it up.

Hi Tim,
Read the call for action via email subscription and being a big fan, I hit the link to buy – but I live in France and usually use Amazon.fr for my purchases. Usually don’t get charged for shipping. Is it OK to buy through them? Will you not get “credit” for an Amazon.fr purchase?
I wonder if I would have trouble ordering for overseas through B&N.
Mark — September 30th, 2010, 12:35 pm
Going to place my order now.
irina — September 30th, 2010, 12:37 pm
I read the 4-hour work week. Still working 40 hrs. 4-hour Body must be selling like hot potatoes…
Why not 4-hour Language, 4-Hour IQ, 4 Hour Love, 4 Hour Psychologist, etc. etc.
David S. — September 30th, 2010, 12:44 pm
Just ordered! Stoked ! The signed copies are a nice personal touch, thanks for that, just another reason worth getting it here extra fast, international shipping costs be damned
Darko — September 30th, 2010, 12:44 pm
Never pre-ordered anything before, so you really nailed the copy on this one.
Really pumped up about this one! I am in quite good shape but I feel there is much more to learn, and goals to reach. Keep up the good work!
Greetings from Sweden

Pre-ordered, and looking forward to it, Tim.

Big fan Tim. Ordered a signed copy last night and look forward to receiving it!
One question: Do you explore which type of strength work is most effective at building muscle. Barbell training or something else?
Thanks as always!
Boris
Tim Ferriss — September 30th, 2010, 3:09 pm
Hi Boris,
I look at it all — free weights, machines, kettlebells, etc. — in this case.

Thank you, Fred – and Tim!! Super big congratulations on the launch!! Can’t wait to see a real, live copy, and I’m already telling my world about it. Go you!
Karli — September 30th, 2010, 1:00 pm
After looking at the comments, I checked… I was charged the full amount immediately as well.
Tim Ferriss — September 30th, 2010, 3:07 pm
Hi Karli,
Really? That’s so odd. Here is the response I got from my publisher, and I will double-check again:
“I just spoke with our B&N rep, who has been in constant touch with the buyer today, and both confirmed that consumers are NOT charged until the book ships and/or the ebook goes on sale. We just ordered a copy of the book so we could see the messaging on bn.com’s system, which says “your credit card will be charged when your order ships”.”
Will do some more detective work.
Thanks for the comment!
Tim

Hey man,
Just ordered the 5 books, looking forward to the teleconference and getting access to all this crazy knowledge. I lost a bunch of weight following your blog post (204 pounds and 17 or 18% bodyfat to 170 lbs and 9%) and am going to submit some pictures.
Peace bro, and good luck with the launch

Hey Tim!
Still awaiting your reply on my earlier post (attached again below).
Have already pre-ordered 1 book with the fear that I might not only loose out on the telecon opportunity but also the specially signed books by you!!!
Please let me know so I can order 4 more books
Thanks.

Hi!!! Wanted to know about having a 1-2 hr telecon with you on Lifestyle Design:
1) Will everyone ordering 5 books or more get the opportunity??? Or few select people from the total?
2) Will this opportunity be applicable for international readers as well? (Im from India).
Pleaseeee clarify ASAP as we gotta order before 12am!!!!
Thanks
Tim Ferriss — September 30th, 2010, 3:05 pm
Hi Manan,
Thx for the comment. Here you go!
1) Will everyone ordering 5 books or more get the opportunity??? Or few select people from the total?
TIM: All who buy 5 or more.
2) Will this opportunity be applicable for international readers as well? (Im from India).
TIM: Of course! You’ll just need to call in. Skype should work fine, I’m guessing.
Tim

Tim,
Done and done! I’m looking forward to reading my copy on my roadtrip from Atlanta to Tucson. The release date is perfect timing! (Although I’m sure plenty of y’all out there would have preferred it to be sooner). In any case I’m stoked!
Omahajoe,
I didn’t read through the several hundred other comments to see if someone already responded to your issue, so I’m sorry if this explanation is redundant.
If you clicked on the free member shipping option, B&N would have added the $25 membership to your cart.
If you want the free shipping and are already a member, scroll down the checkout page until you see a box in which you can enter your membership number, which is located on the front of your card.
Another window will open in which you can select your shipping preferences.
Good luck!
Joel — September 30th, 2010, 1:19 pm
Hey Tim, some odd months ago you twittered that you were looking for a certain stuntman’s contact info. I was the one who sent that in.
Can you tell us if there will be any non-physical distribution of this book!? I travel very extensively and simply don’t want to add any books to my already tight kit. I will pre-order a physical copy just as I did 4hww, but only if its the only way.
Please let us know. THX!
Tim Ferriss — September 30th, 2010, 3:04 pm
Hey Joel,
I remember and thanks again. Yes, there will be digital versions. I’m not sure on the timing, but they’ll be there. The hardcover is probably the best format, if possible, just because there are something like 200 illustrations/pictures.
Travel safe!
Tim

Aw Maaaannnnn! I’ve gotta wait till December? i want to get my body right NOW! LOL
No huge improvements (still lacking discipline so far) but I DID go down a belt size in a few weeks following your Slow Carb advice. Even though I SWORE I’d never pre-order a book again due to several bad experiences, I’ve ordered The 4 Hour Body. Keep up the good work.
Alex Louie — September 30th, 2010, 1:41 pm
Ordered a copy from B&N.
After reading your “From Geek to Freak” blog post at least 20 times,
I look forward to reading the “4 Hour Body” at least as many times.
This is my first time purchasing a blog-promoted book as well.
Josh — September 30th, 2010, 1:42 pm
Tim,
Congratulations on the book release. I know that this a topic you are passionate about and I hope that it is just as successful if not more successful than 4HWW.
I’ve taken some of your fitness hacks and used them in my workouts with great results. As someone who grew up being that pencil thin guy, I love seeing people from high school who are amazed at the change. Can’t wait to see what the new approaches you talk about in 4HB. Maybe I can turn heads all over again.
Already pre-ordered a signed copy and can’t wait to see what your next project brings. Best of luck in your endeavors.
Mitch Jackson — September 30th, 2010, 1:45 pm
Tim- Placed an order for a couple of books that I plan on sharing with family and friends. Although I’m not willing to reduce the big “O” to only 15 minutes, the rest of your work looks groundbreaking! Keep it up and remember, if you can’t run with the big dogs then stay on the porch!”
Chris — September 30th, 2010, 1:45 pm
Ordered one for Canada, 6.48 shipping is not bad. The Canadian price will likely be closer to $20 anyway, for those of you doing the math.
A small thing to do for you Tim, I really appreciate your work and you as a person, you are positively affecting many people.
Thanks,
Chris

Pre-ordered on the German amazon page, to be delivered to the UK,
right in time for Christmas.
Would have loved a signed copy, but shipping cost and time is just too much.
Thanks Tim for all your great work, really looking forward to some more tricks to tweak my body and especially my mind!

Josh Moore — September 30th, 2010, 2:03 pm
@Bernard,
Given that Tim went with my prediction of the four hour body as the title of this book, I would suggest he is building the 4-hour brand.
Most of the readers on this blog read for all aspects of lifestyle design, including the several posts on body enhancement and development.
I would suggest bookmarking http://www.fourhourblog.com, which is a domain Tim uses as a redirect to this site. My assumption is that as the brand builds, that will become the main blog page with http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog redirecting to it (note: Tim uses fourhourblog.com when commenting on other blogs and in videos, likely for this reason).
Smart move Tim, well done and I’ll try to order a copy of the book now

5 copies locked in TF! Have you read a book called synchronicity? Can’t remember who wrote it and at the time I remember thinking what a load of S&%t! ….However, almost every time I read one of your post I find an answer or at least great inspiration to a problem I’m dealing with…synchronicity! Cheers tim
Kevin — September 30th, 2010, 2:32 pm
Tim- Thanks to your speed reading tips I ordered 5 copies before I even finished reading the post! Your first book has changed my life, so this one can only be better.
I can’t wait for the upcoming teleconference for those ordering more than 5 books, and just have two quick questions:
1) Will we be able to post questions beforehand that you can try to address?
2) Will you lend advice or tips on muses, marketing, & related lifestyle design topics beyond what’s in the book?
As always Tim, excellent work. Portate bien & cuidate mucho
Kevin

Yes to both questions. Coming soon

Hey Tim! Just ordered my copy and can’t wait to read it! 4HWW changed my life and the way I think forever! I’m looking forward to how this may do the same for me in these areas of life.
By the way, it was nice meeting you in Willow Glen not too long ago. Hopefully we’ll bump into each other again soon. You’ve been a huge inspiration to me and as a result I’m about to launch a marketing company based around the principles you teach in 4HWW. Can’t wait!
Best of luck with your book launch as well, but I’m pretty sure you don’t need luck at this point

Man, I don’t know if you can hack the human body as you say… it’s rather hard to believe…
What I know is that I loved your first book and that you do know how to create expectation and you do know how to sell your products.
I just pre-ordered 2 copies O:)

Hi Tim,
Really looking forward for this book! Exactly my taste, I can finally become Batman!
I also noticed your last words, and wonder if you may be a Metal Gear Solid-fan? If not, look up the MGS soundtrack “The Best is Yet to Come”, a wonderful piece!
Steven Wright — September 30th, 2010, 3:05 pm
Tim if it’s half as good as the your first book, it’ll be worth it. Your book motivated a buddy and I to write and start our business and book 12 months ago can’t thank you enough. Also can’t wait to tear one of the 5 copies I just ordered!
Tim – Anything on digestion? As far as body hacks go it seems like it all starts with making sure you have and are getting everything you need from your diet! Hope you got something on chronic ankle sprains too!!

Hi Tim- this book would make a perfect piece for my blog- I’m a health psychologist and love and intimacy coach and write about healthy sexuality/innovative stuff ( I just did the form for the media piece). I’m in the process of completing your first book (-in the midst of market research for my muse, thanks for the ideas on marketing, grad school taught me nothing about how to market a product!) I ordered 2 copies, may want to take your teleclass though – if we can ask questions. If so, am I able to edit my order to 5 today? Thanks!
Cynthia Loomis — September 30th, 2010, 3:16 pm
Hey, Tim!
When can we expect confirmation on receipt of our 5 books receipt?
Sorry, just eager! I didn’t get any email(s) confirming my submission or from Amy. However, I am sure she is swamped. As it appears like you have had sooooo many people take you up on the 5 books! (AWESOME in so many different ways — I can’t imagine movie sales, etc. if actors and actresses would do the same thing!!)
Andrew — September 30th, 2010, 3:17 pm
Ordered & looking forward to it. Keep up the great work!
Natalie Bauer — September 30th, 2010, 3:19 pm
Congratulations Tim!
Looks like your new book is a hit already!
Pre-ordered my 3, can’t wait to spread the book to friends. If it can do any more for me than the Slow-Carb diet and 4HWW already are then it will be priceless.
What are you doing to celebrate this massive number of pre-orders?
Will you be doing a book tour? Through Canada?
Good luck and Alles liebe!
PS LOL to the guy who asked about a video tutorial for the orgasm. You made my day.
Michael — September 30th, 2010, 3:37 pm
Hi Tim,
just ordered my copy. I’m a sports chiropractor and exercise physiologist who works a lot with athletes from weekend warriors to pros. Excited to see what you put in about C.A.M (acupuncture, chiropractic, active release therapy, graston, kinesiotaping etc) for becoming super human!
Kieran — September 30th, 2010, 3:39 pm
Tim,
Just pre-ordered 5. Can’t wait.
I also did the Google Docs media thing. My list is at around 80,000 now. Last month I launched a product which has grossed over $2 million already, and I doubt I would have done it without reading the 4-hour work week. It was the kick up the ass I needed. Better yet, I’m only 19!
Either way, a blast to my email lists is the least I can offer. We (or myself and your assistant – I guess you’re super busy!) can discuss the specifics via email. I can hook you up with a few more of the “big dawgs” with even bigger lists than mine, too. Hope to hear from you.
Cheers,
Kieran

Tim, five books ordered and waiting to be sent to Hokkaido, Japan. The other four books will make fine gifts to worthy family and friends.
I’m very much looking forward to the telephone Q&A as well as reading your new material. I’m trying to think of a question that will be beneficial to us both – I’m looking forward to making you think!
The 4-hour Work Week totally changed the way I worked – I guess this book will change the way I live. As a keen strength trainer and life hacker, I’m looking forward to this book enormously.
Wishing you a very successful book launch.

Hey Tim,
Just added 5 books to cart, and B&N wont ship internationally,
its states “Your order is now shipping to an international destination; please choose an appropriate shipping method.” and there is no other “appropriate” method? I have cash in hand my friend ready to buy – any thoughts?

Ordered with pleasure. I’m not sure when I will get my hands on it (I live in the England but will be travelling when it is posted) but I am certain it will be worth the wait.
Thank you for continuing to inspire all of us and for inspiring me as a writer and perpetual adventuring child myself. The world needs more people who work less and play more.
If you ever establish a university of play with special classes for writers and adventurers there would be a queue out the door – with me elbowing my way to the front.
safe journeys and big fat adventures

Congratulations! What a natural and fabulous title. Cannot wait to read it! This book is a bit of a dream come true for me. I feel so ecstatic that someone with a proper budget actually chose to apply their funds to an undertaking like this. Testing, testing, and more testing. HOORAY!!!
5 copies down for me and some lucky tbd friends!
I remain grateful for and still so treasure the signed copy of your revised 4HWW you sent me. Looking forward to more encouragement smiling at me from my shelf.
On a practical note, I also have high hopes for the info in 4 Hour Body to help my situation. I have needed my body hacked for years!
and have been trying to hack it myself with middling success, using an equally beleaguered Lyme brain to do it. btw, any suggestions for outsourcing and/or hacking all aspects of some neurotoxin-besotted grey matter, on a no-budget? Brain is now my biggest barrier to the 4HWW. It’s so bad, I have spent the last 2.5 hours just figuring out how to buy your book, make a screen shot, and write this post. Not kidding. I now read at 70 wpm for any comprehension whatsoever. So frustrating!!!. The anticipated round-the-corner cure has been really slacking about on the other side of that infernal corner… So, I am just taking on symptoms.: pain and brain.
re: brain. Here’s the laundry list of attempted solutions: truckloads of various neuromins, homeopathy, meds, neuro detox strategies, neurodevelopmental movement, dietary approaches, neurofeedback, metronome therapy, attempts at meditation, exercise, air filters for molds, etc. etc.
oh dear life hacker of life hackers, any other subtle tricks up your sleeves? Perhaps there’s a brain chapter in the book… ?! Or ideas for no-budget outsourcing of the brain?
re: pain. FYI: after 13 relentless years of it, and the ensuing bankruptcy from flailing about desperately with every allopathic and alternative promise of relief that crossed my path, my pain issues have been largely resolved by…. titanium, magnetic and infrared products. Even tachyon products have been shockingly effective, and they are quantum-goofier than anything else I have in desperation tried. Wow, who knew? not my ND’s, DC’s, PT’s, MD’s, LAC’s, rolfing/gyrotonics/feldenkreis practitioners, etc., ahem…. Ah, the information game.
And so… back to the book. I close by sending you my very best wishes for yet another 15 minutes bursting with authorly fame, Tim! Thank you for taking on life in such a brilliant way, and for so generously sharing the spoils with your readers.
Ole!

Like some of the others here I wondered about the the confirmation email not stating hardcover-signed as the B&N website displays. One way to check is to look at the isbn number within the order tracking application. Signed ends in 197 and the unsigned ends in 630, I believe. Ordered two and the 4hww as well since I’ve read it twice and don’t have my own copy. Kindle just doesn’t cut it for some things.
Tim Ferriss — September 30th, 2010, 5:26 pm
Yep, totally true on ISBN. Thanks for the help with clarification! This hardcover also has 200+ illustrations/pics. Digital might work, but I can guarantee hard copy will.
Thanks!

OK, I am really interested in buying your book but I have a question about the two hours of sleep before buying it. Is it possible with the technique you are talking about to sleep everyday 2 hours?, or it’s a solution for random moments where you need to do something and you simple don’t have the time to sleep. I always thought that sleeping is a waste of time and if its possible two sleep two hours everyday I would go ahead and buy it next second to be one of the first to find out the technique!!

I just placed an order for a signed copy. I look forward to it, Tim! Good luck.
Cameron Williams — September 30th, 2010, 5:46 pm
Ordered two of the signed copies for free shipping to a PO Box in the States. May still order a third copy from a Canadian retailer to get it more immediately in Canada. My bet is that in spite of there being 3,000 signed copies, almost no one will keep them in unread condition, and they’ll still up being collector’s items.
Paul G. — September 30th, 2010, 5:49 pm
Hey Tim!
This looks fantastic… I know you’ve talked about this for a long time and I think the final result will be great.
I’m living in, and I’m sure I’m not alone, the U.K. … what options for signed copies do we have since if I order for friends/family as Christmas gifts, it’s hardly likely they’ll arrive on time.
Any UK-fan options?
Paul.

OMG Wow! This Book Looks Like The Holy Grail! Thank You Tim For Your Incredibly Obsessive Persuit In Finding The Answers That Help So Many People Like Myself. Your first book was amazing for me, like a book of revelations haha. The second book is bound to be a hit. I’ve pre-ordered and cannot wait for it to arrive through my door. My birthday is in Dec, so what a great present to myself huh?
I’m so looking forward to reading about how to rapidly lose weight, increase muscle and the female pleasure part lol.
Thanks Again For Your Significant Contribution To My Life & To Others.
Best Wishes,
Darren

Just pre-ordered 2 books, plan to give one to my loved one. I’m confident that it’ll turn out to be a great book!
Jim Johnson — September 30th, 2010, 6:11 pm
Incorrectly placed previously!
Ferriss,
The timing of your new book is perfect-almost anyway. Please let me explain.
About 6 month’s ago I read a book about RFL (Radio Frequency Lesioning) for my back pain. The author (a doctor) suggested losing weight and getting some exercise. After 51 years, all of a sudden it was sound advice. Sound advice that worked.
I went on the Ideal Protein diet which, coupled with some exercise, allowed me to lose almost 30 pounds. My 3 trips a week to the gym (3 sets of 15 slow reps) transformed my body. Yes-favorably. And I have managed to keep my weight stable ever since. However, after a few months I started to develop shoulder and elbow pain. Some cortisone used to relieve it but not anymore. Energy was fading. Two young children. Life.
I started to look into “life extension” types of products. Cenegenics? Too expensive for me and too many shots. With the help of a local life extension physician I was just about to start taking armor thyroid and use testosterone cream followed by a post cycle including clomid and ZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzz.
Are you still there? I too am bored. And scared!
I will wait for your book. I am 51 years old and look forward to communicating my experience with you and others.
Thanks for being a guinea pig for the rest of us.
Regards,
Four Hour Johnson
PS. I bought 5 books as requested. I am planning on the possibility of you changing my life again! Looking forward to your call!
Josh — September 30th, 2010, 6:12 pm
Pre order done.
Happy to help you out Tim you have changed my life, your first book is one of the greatest books of all time.
Planing my first vagabonding trip around the world trip with no drop in my monthly income while I am away, living the dream and its all thanks to your book.
Good luck with your new best seller.
Thanks
Josh

Tim,
I greatly enjoy your blog and loved Four Hour Work Week. Will you be releasing a PDF version of your new book? My own lifestyle redesign begins October 17th with a one-way ticket to Europe and no set itinerary, which makes a pre-order a bit tricky.
Josh — September 30th, 2010, 6:30 pm
Tim,
I am for sure buying one.
I teach out of your 4 hour Work Week book to businesses.
This is exactly what I need.
Thanks for all your work man.

Congratulations, Tim!! My husband and I are so excited for you and your new book. We were going to order one, but loved your suggestion for giving it at the Holidays. Plus, we wanted to support you, too!
Best of luck! We know this will be an amazing hit.
What a great day for you!
Warmly,
Amy

Mac — September 30th, 2010, 7:05 pm
Tim, quick questions:
1) If I order 5 copies from amazon.com, does it count towards the live Q&A?
2) In the book, do you discuss anything relating to enhancing cognitive performance?
I remember in a video (somewhere on vimeo) you suggested doing neck exercises to increase blood flow to the brain. Is there anything specific on this, or does the advice for hacking your body indirectly include the brain too?
JoAnn — September 30th, 2010, 7:10 pm
Tim – Congrats on completing another book. It sounds interesting. One question, with the info on testosterone and sperm count, it sounds more geared towards men than women. Or, is there also info geared towards women and their specific hormone issues (like menopause)?
Tim Ferriss — October 1st, 2010, 12:59 am
Hi JoAnn,
There is nothing on menopause besides some longevity discussion, but I would say 50% of the case studies are women. Plenty for the ladies!
Tim

Hi,
just wanted to say that it says i’m not eligible for free shipping
Your order is not eligible for FREE Shipping.
They see I need a membership, and although my order of two books is more than 25 I can only select shippings that cost 18$ upwards.

Ah, really? Man, I’ll remove the mention. Thank you for the heads up. Es tut mir Leid.
Sarah — September 30th, 2010, 7:18 pm
Hi Tim,
Bought seven in two different purchases, then went to my husband’s office (he’s a doctor) and have started to spread the news. It will be rather amusing to see what he thinks when he reads your book
.
I couldn’t get a screenshot of the purchase. Can I forward the receipts to your assistant by email to get the Q&A?
Travis and Robin — September 30th, 2010, 7:24 pm
Hi Tim,
I was incredibly excited when I looked at the RSS feed and saw your book was coming out. The 4HWW changed our lives forever, and I’ve never looked back. We started our own business in May of ’09, and now we are free to live the lives we’ve always wanted.
The next step was taking a serious look at our longterm health. I was following your “slow carb” diet for awhile, and just implemented the “Paleo Diet” because of this blog. I’m already down 10 pounds of fat and haven’t even started exercising too much yet.
I was getting tired of scanning through the blog searching for nuggets of wisdom and in your posts and in your comments, now it will all be easily accessible in a bound copy!
I am convinced this book will do for my health and physical well being that the 4HWW did for our business/personal lives.
Good luck with the pre-orders, and thank you again for everything!
Travis and Robin

Hi Tim,
I admitted to my wife that I have a ‘man-crush on Tim Ferriss’, she scoffed and suggested that I be happy with the free copy I’m getting from your Extended Edition offer. I told her that she’s right and then proceeded to order 3 more copies of your new book without her knowing. They’ll make great gifts which she can’t deny.
Your book and your blog encouraged us to travel to South America with our baby (then 8 months old) for a total of 2 months and was a great experience. Thanks so much for all of your hard work (past, present & future)! My family wishes you great success with your new book, you deserve it! We’re looking forward to following your experiences for many years to come! Cheers!

GREAT choice! Man, love Alice in Chains. Jar of Flies is awesome.
Monty E. — September 30th, 2010, 7:31 pm
Unfortunately 3,000 signed copies doesn’t make the signed copy ‘unique’ or ‘rare.’ If it was like 300 signed copies, it would of been a lot more attractive. Needless to say, I will still probably buy a copy down the road and support! Glad to see it out.
Ronnie — September 30th, 2010, 7:32 pm

Pre-ordered 5 Copies from Barnes and Noble (a book like this is a perfect Christmas gift for friends).
Looking forward to reading it.
Thanks Tim!
Billy — September 30th, 2010, 8:13 pm
Just ordered two, figure I can find someone to give the other copy to for Christmas. I am glad to see the countless notebooks you own come together and create what I am sure will be another ground breaking book. I just hope there weren’t 3k already ordered before me.
On that note, could you do a post on how to handle enormous mind-numbing tasks like signing 3,000 books? Can’t exactly use assistants on that one.
Brad — September 30th, 2010, 8:25 pm

Stephen Y. — September 30th, 2010, 8:42 pm
Love the knowledge you have Tim! Just ordered 10 books. I wanted to let you know that I am from the bay area, but I am writing this in Lima, Peru right now because of your book 4HWW, which showed me a glimpse of vagabonding. Soooo new to Americans, but according to so common to Europeans. Just visited Iquitos, Peru which is in the Amazon jungle and stayed at a shamanic village for 2 1/2 weeks. Taken some incredible medicinal plants and the insights I´ve gotten from them are incredible. Thank you thank you thank you. Oh, this is while still making money back in the U.S to cover for the cost of this trip also. =) If this new book is as good as your first book, it will do manicently well. Thank you!
Tim Ferriss — October 1st, 2010, 12:53 am
Wow — congratulations, Stephen! I’m really hoping to get to Peru. This comment might seal the deal

I’m a big fan, ordered 2 copies for my dad and I.
Matthew Bailey — September 30th, 2010, 9:57 pm
also ordered another 5 books. What are you doing to me? First I ordered 100 copies of your last one, now another 5. Plus your sending me one for the first 100! GeeZ hahah Keep up the good work man! Hope we meet up for a brew sometime
Joe — September 30th, 2010, 10:13 pm
Great marketing we can observe here. Publication world is facing a challenge especially in the digital world.
Take note when Tim said book was sold on ebay for 4 figures. That is a social proof.
Then, he gave a deadline of 5 books ordering by Thursday and there is only 3000 signed books. That is a scarcity.
Read a book by Robert Cialdini on science of persuasion. It is a fantastic book.
Purchase a book few hours ago and I decide to buy other one 5 minutes ago.
Ramona — September 30th, 2010, 10:20 pm
So excited, about this! As a teacher your first book has helped me in so many ways by bringing new adventures to the classroom. I especially love using the Cheshire Cat Quote, referenced in your book, to inspire and motivate my students:
“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?” [asked Alice]
“That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,” said the Cat.
“I don’t much care where –” said Alice.
“Then it doesn’t matter which way you go,” said the Cat.
In addition, strategies from your book, and your many kind supporters, have helped put over $1800 in supplies and technology in my classroom through DonorsChoose.org. I am a huge fan of your work, can’t wait to read this book, and am glad that I can support your educational efforts, like you have supported mine.
Best Wishes!

Ordered my copy now. Will be arriving just in time, no doubt, to help with those Christmas indulgences.
Rik A Griffith — October 1st, 2010, 12:59 am
Don’t know if this has been said, too many comments. I will read reguardless because your my favorite author. Honestly, don’t like the title, but can respect that it will sell well. Sounds like a great book other than that. Honestly I think you have the status to make a title better than that. But can’t argue I guess you are the best selling author, and not me…
If I didnt know your work and saw it on a shelf I’d never pick it up but I guess in selling to the masses it is the title that works.
In either case, looking forward to the book congrats on your second book! lets hope it can cause a buzz like the last …
Tjerk Dijksterhuis — October 1st, 2010, 1:00 am
Super. I want to order it, but the Barnes en Noble site is giving me a hard time. Maybe because it is an International order? Suggestions? (The sales process won’t complete on the site).
Chris McCracken — October 1st, 2010, 1:07 am
OI just ordered the book. Like other internationals, the shipping was a bit much. However, even when the costs are added up, it’s still less than I’d expect to pay in an Australian bookstore.
Since it’s relevant to MMA people, when I get it, I’ll put a review on my site.
If it’s as good as the first book, it’ll be a great review
Alex Wilson — October 1st, 2010, 1:09 am
Hi Tim, I ordered 6 books and was charged the full amount. (though I actually prefer just to pay it now anyway) Just thought I should give you a heads up.
Also what will the phone discussion cover? Will we be able to submit questions?

I just pre-ordered it. Thanks Tim, can’t wait to read it!
Sarah — October 1st, 2010, 2:18 am
Hey Tim,
I am awake in the middle of the night with cold symptoms, perusing your blog to find out how to contact your assistant, since I didn’t see a response from you regarding how to send you proof for the Q&A since I can’t get a screenshot.
Do you happen to address in the book any little known hacks for getting over colds quickly, or better yet, avoiding getting them at all? Small children in the home make typical strategies basically useless
.
That would be worth the price of the seven books I bought, all by itself, if I don’t end up getting the Q & A!
Nice to see you have lots for women in there, per your comments, since there are some differences.
Looking forward to the “crowd tracking” of results we will all be doing following your book.
I see in your last post above mine that you posted the email address for Amy. I’ll forward the purchase emails to her, and that will probably take care of it.
I hope you reached your goal by midnight!
Michael Solarez — October 1st, 2010, 2:23 am
Thanks TIM… I just pre-ordered 2!!!!
I can’t wait to read it and listen to the audio version
Sarah — October 1st, 2010, 2:32 am
Oh, I forgot a question about sleep: Why do you prefer the full night monophasic over the two hours total through polyphasic?
Perhaps I can get that one in on the Q&A and not have to wait for the book
.
Pete Williams — October 1st, 2010, 3:47 am
Hey Tim… Congrats man.
More on ‘completing’ the writing process, than anything else…
I’m just putting the finishing touches to my new book as we speak; ended up getting a ghost-writer in to put the finishing touches on it… it ‘grind/resistance’ began to beat me – so I understand wholeheartedly when you talk about “not being a writer”
I’m 8 days away from the marathon I mentioned in the ‘Cold Remedy’ video. It’s been an interesting journey training for the race – I’ve tried to learn a lot about my body during the process; so the new book really intrigues me.
3hr 17m is the goal – wish me luck
If a way I can help promote/market the book on any level, crosses your mind, shoot me an email and I’d be happy to help.

Small issue. I ordered your book IMMEDIATELY, through the link you provided, as I had been looking to do so since you first described it. But…
They charged my card. Right away. As in, IMMEDIATELY.
Might want to clear that up for the folks, or modify your text. No worries, just a thing. Still, a big fan.
Tim Ferriss — October 1st, 2010, 10:46 pm
Hey Whit,
I can finally explain it! Please see another “Tim” and his comment. It authorizes but doesn’t charge, so not to worry. Thank you, though, for the comment and order!
Best,
Tim

joe — October 1st, 2010, 11:54 am
ok,
even though you have never answered one of my emails or tweets I still applaud your exercise of being a “free man”. You don’t seem to swallow any dogma without running it through your own highly tuned BS sensors first. This free thinking and spirit are to be applauded and encouraged. Good work. I still would appreciate 120 seconds of your time to ask a few pointed questions. Book is ordered and I cant wait. I know people who have used your first book to inspire them to create millions. Thanks.
Tim Ferriss — October 1st, 2010, 10:39 pm
Hey Joe,
Thanks for the comment, so consider this your first answered
Best to include your questions in the next one and I’ll try and do my best.
Cheers,
Tim

Hi Tim,
Big fan, and I’ve just preordered from Amazon UK (I live in Scotland) – is there any possible way to speed up the estimated release date they’ve given as February 2011?
I appreciate this may be beyond your control, but waiting almost an entire quarter longer for the UK release doesn’t seem right when it’s the same book as the US release (i.e. doesnt need to be translated!).
Either way I’m looking forward to reading it!
Sam

Hi Tim,
I just ordered the expanded 4 Hour Workweek and your new 4 hour body and look forward to receiving them in December. I just started looking into you and hope I can apply your fruitful knowledge.
Will you be writing another book on the subject that is directed to specific sports such as bodybuilding or even just a continuation of this new book?
I’ve personally had to stop lifting weights and went back to just yoga/calisthenics. So I hope this book can give me insights to what I was doing wrong with the weights. My torso region, my arms, and several other places are very tight and I just don’t know why. I’m probably 25-30% bodyfat at 275 pounds. I’ll be cutting out 30 pounds in November.
Does this book offer any yoga like stretches or breathing protocols. Does it offer cross training advice? I’ve been trying to put together my own workout plan but the one Casey Viator did looks to be optimal. I’d probably take out the leg raises but keep in the full form squats myself. His Arthur Jones routine was 27 minutes long. You’ve probably included less weightlifting exercises and included a longer resting period, so I’d like to see how that works out when I try it. My best guess is it’s always easier to start out fresh with a good plan. I have to undo a lot of the wrong strategies I had been doing all these years.
I’ll post my blog just in case anyone wants to see all my strengths and weaknesses. It’s in no way an advertisement.

Hey Tim!
I just made my first online purchase(besides flights) ever, and it was your new book(pre order). I am so stoked to get rid of my belly that decided to grow over the last few months.
Thanks for the 4-Hour Workweek too! I’ve bought it twice, and recommended it to everyone I know. It inspired me to start my own online muse which I am doing, but it’s definitely been a grind. Programmers charge a lot these days.
Keep it real huh?
If you’re ever in Vancouver, BC get in touch and we’ll burn one. :0
Kind regards,

Tim,
Thank you! My knee is feeling a lot better after taking emergenc, glucosamine, and MSM and its only been about a month! I cant wait for your book to come out. I was away from my computer for a bit too long and unfortunately missed out on the signed copies. I plan on ordering 5+ books for friends, family and everyone! I know plenty of people who would love a book or two for Christmas!
I don’t see anything about this teleconference that everyone is talking about anywhere. Is this still available? And does ordering from one website help you out more than the other?
All the best,
Jeremy
Tim Ferriss — October 1st, 2010, 10:34 pm
Congrats, Jeremy! Hope you feel better. If you ordered the 5+ copies (or will soon), no worries. It did expire, but just email the receipt to jenny.rabun-at-gmail-dot-com and mention I said it was OK to add you to the teleconference list.
For now, Amazon is probably best.
Thanks!

Best gifts ever but that was the idea..right.

Hey Tim, I bought 5 copies through amazon.ca and sent the screenshot in, but I haven’t received an email. Will I be getting one soon to get in on the Q&A?
Karen — October 1st, 2010, 4:44 pm
I take it, that because BN doesn’t have an option to buy the signed version, ISBN-13: 9780594036197, that there are no longer any signed versions left to buy?
Sadness ensues!
None the less, I will still be pre-ordering a regular version, just a bit disappointing, considering that I bookedmarked the link/gotmyhopesup/got my card out and everything, heh.
So yeah, if the “signed” option on BN isn’t available, the regular pre-order won’t be signed, right?
Tim Ferriss — October 1st, 2010, 10:32 pm
Hi Karen,
The signed editions have sold out, but there’s plenty of Tim in every copy of the regular versions as well
All the best,
Tim
Ben — October 1st, 2010, 5:41 pm
Tim, can you please stop being such an a-hole?
Not only did you write that best selling first book of yours and keep an active and successful blog, but now you have to release a second book that is sure to be a huge success as well? I mean come on, stop making guys like us, who never quite seem to find the right balance of perspiration to match our inspiration, feel crap about themselves. I could have written this new book of yours, I mean, I could have, if I was writing a book, but now you’ve gone and done it. So selfish.
Can’t you lose some of that self confidence? Maybe if you had a secret perversion along the lines of tipping old people’s wheelchairs over or something I could get behind you.
Until then you are just a successful, insightful, driven, probably nicely interior decorated, a-hole.
Thanks,
Ben

Hi Tim,
ordered my 5 copies yesterday and had them shipped to my us-forwarding address. Do you have to be especially wired for those 15 minute orgasms? Please don’t keep us poor girls waiting untill christmas! Allthough it would be the greatest present ever, grin…
TK77 — October 1st, 2010, 9:03 pm
Hi Tim,
I preordered, and am psyched. I am intrigued by “reversing permanent injury.” At 36 and after some time in the NFL, I’m feeling like my body is conspiring against me with arthritis and torn labrums and such. Should I keep my expectations for this book in check, or do you think you’ve come across some genuine revelations that can help me regain some of my prior ability?
Also, I am ground zero at work for recommending 4HWW, and my old boss even loves it!
Much success!

I am curious why it was promoted on BN for the signed copy. Today, the link sends to Amazon.com.
Why not continued with BN promoting the unsigned copy?
Explain?
Jeff Ali — October 1st, 2010, 11:24 pm
Hi Tim, Good Luck with the new book. I’m not sure if I’m one of the lucky first 3,000 who will get a signed copy but I pre-ordered it from B&N anyways because you asked so nicely. The 4-Hour Work Week is awesome (I tell everyone about it) and I have a feeling The 4-Hour Body will be even more enlightening and inspiring. I just wish more people would read your book so they’d stop wondering why I have so much free time to do what I love (chuckles).
Jeff Ali — October 2nd, 2010, 12:03 am
Hi Tim, I just saw the link you posted earlier that goes direct to the signed version and clicked on that then clicked on hard cover and ended up with this as my order: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/The-4-Hour-Body/Timothy-Ferriss/e/9780594036197/?itm=3&USRI=4-hour+body
My order says this
The 4-Hour Body: An Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat-Loss, Incredible Sex, and Becoming Superhuman
Timothy Ferriss
Hardcover
ISBN-13: 9780307463630
Online Price: $14.58
Can you tell me if this will be a signed copy? The page previous to the check out says (Sign Edition) but on the order page it changed to (Hard Cover) so I’m just wondering if I should expect the signed version or not.
Tim Ferriss — October 4th, 2010, 10:30 pm
Hi Jeff,
If you ordered from the “signed edition” page, you’re all set! Thanks so much.
To those who have asked, the signed edition was only on the “signed edition” page at BN.com. Please note that the book on Amazon is unsigned (but the content is the same, of course!).
All the best,
Tim

Something is lacking in the transfer of your lifestyle design. Not everybody has you IQ, emotional intelligence, attitude and enthusiasm. You tell great stories but this does not empower people.
It is not enough to just read the words of Tim, you have to model the way he thinks (a la NLP) also! See “Do as I think not as I say: reverse-engineering the mind of Tim Ferriss” in Interesting Times #5.

Haha Peru worth checkin out. If you ever want to go to a shamanic healing center, shoot me an email. I can recommend you to one of the best in the area. One of the most incredible experiences I´ve gone through. The medicinal plant that you take, Ayahuasca, will show you sooooo much about yourself that you didn´t even knew existed within you. It pretty much reveals in detail everything that you have thought and felt about in your past, present, and future. Can´t wait to get back home and apply everything that I´ve learned. Again, thank you for giving me the knowledge to experience this and many more journeys to come. Whenever I meet you, I have quite a nice gift to give you. Take care!

Tim,
I’ve never been one to have a guru or idol, but you may very well change this – between the way you live your life, your talent and hard work for distilling your knowledge and experience into such meaty books and blog posts (I am going to read the new expanded FH Workweek on Mt Tam today), and now the Body book. I’m down for the challenge and with the mid-Dec. ship date, well what perfect timing for a call for worldwide new years resolutions to all change our bodies with the book at once.
Nice work walking the talk and being the talk.

I’m sorry, but this feels extremely sensationalistic. I’m already thrown off by some of the wording: “- How Tim gained 34 pounds of muscle in 28 days, without steroids, and in four hours of total gym time.” Does that mean four hours per week or four hours over a month with something else to supplement it? Sounds sketchy.
I’m taking the smart consumer route. I’m not buying this book until I am able to flip through it.

Hey Tim,
Are the tele conversations with people who bought 5 copies available for the public or is it just private.?
If public, When and where can we access those? Have you considered the level of privacy of the conversations?
I see most people are ok with paleo style/slo carb (me too) and some are only vegetarian. You mentioned you’ve got both camps covered. I wonder if you have written something for people who can buy meat only less often or occasionally.
The book however i believe will be way better than steroids. Well comparing with steroid itself is an insult and i am sorry.

Hi Tim! This book sounds incredible as I love learning about the human body and what it is capable of doing, so thanks for all your time and research, I look forward to reading it!
My question is this: I am anxious to get going with some of your techniques I have read about in your other blog, mainly that of eliminating white carbs etc, but I am currently breast-feeding my 3 month old baby boy (who is super cute by the way!) Can you tell me your opinion on using such methods while breast feeding? Is there some variation I could use if it is too strict for me right now? People have all told me to wait until I stop feeding, but I really feel adamant in my mind that I want to start now, even if it is just slowly. I have been overweight most of my life, so I have plenty of excess weight to shed, not just a few “baby kilos” if you know what I mean?! Please help! Thanks in advance! xxx

Hey Tim or assistant,
How about throwing an update on the post stating that the signed copies are gone. I was heartbroken when I discovered that I missed out (I simply don’t surf often enough-I’m on the RSS now).
Oh well, I’m still broke enough that it’s nice to only have to buy one copy, but I’ll still pre-order for you. I recommend your first book constantly, but I haven’t been able to sell one copy, so I’m definitely not one of your 1,000 True Fans. You are one of my heroes though, and I thank you.

@Michal
I would make a confident bet that the spreading of the word has little, if anything, to do with his email list. Heck, I can’t remember getting one email from him in all these years.
The dude pushes out some bold and well exectuted/written content. So well that I have no embarrassment turning people on to him (15 min orgasm volunteers included). I advertise for the guy for free.
Like most I follow his twitter and facebook to keep up with what playdate with life he has next.
Now, if I could just get my tendinitis problem with my fingers (read: painful trigger finger in 7 digits) solved without surgery I would elevate his status to…well, to something.

Hey Tim-
I will have my wife order this tonight as she is the “Keeper of the Amazon Account” in our household. I just logged onto the post today after buying a hard copy of The 4-Hour Workweek. I have had the audio book but wanted the book for the websites and to review certain material.
I will read the new book and will see if my wife has an interest in it. (Now about that female orgasm thing…:)) Seriously, I am sure it has some great ideals.
The cool thing (for me) about what you write is that you do not lecture, you educate. I like how you do not tell me “Jeno, you must live abroad for a six months.” You say, “It was awesome for me and here is a way if you want to try it.” I suspect the new book is the same way.
Looking forward to checking it out and to reviewing T4HW in print.
Best rgs,
Jeno

Dwight Anthony — October 3rd, 2010, 8:18 pm
Great news here Tim, I’m excited about the book and I know it will be quality written like the 4 hour work week. Should be some good info. that we could take from this and action immediately. Sounds like a real, no nonsense type of guide.

Ah, TIm, I was getting excited there for a while. I had thought you were going to hit a thousand responses to this post. Alas, the comments seem to have dwindled significantly. Anyway, I pre ordered this as soon as my friend told me about it being available (about 2 hours after the post)! I’m really looking forward to reading it.

Hi Tim am trying to order the signed copy but Barnes & Noble website does let me do it (i.e. there is no button). Are the signed copies sold out?
Ryan Zschau — October 4th, 2010, 4:50 am
Most excellent!
Pre-ordered!
Sounds like fun!
Madhu Ganesh — October 4th, 2010, 4:51 am
For some reason my comments never get moderated the first time around :
Hey Tim,
Are the tele conversations with people who bought 5 copies available for the public or is it just private.?
If public, When and where can we access those? Have you considered the level of privacy of the conversations?
I see most people are ok with paleo style/slo carb (me too) and some are only vegetarian. You mentioned you’ve got both camps covered. I wonder if you have written something for people who can buy meat only less often or occasionally.
The book however i believe will be way better than steroids. Well comparing with steroid itself is an insult and i am sorry.

Pre-Order done.
I think this website and all of Tim’s efforts are inspiring.
I’m just a pop in and pop out fan of the site, but the knowledge that Tim shares is so valuable that I always walk away either having learned something new (how to get an egg out of the shell easily or hold your breath for 5 minutes) or found something new that I want to purchase(Total Immersion DVDs or Vibram 5 Fingers footwear).
Long live Tim and this blog!

Hola Tim.
Me gustó mucho tu libro anterior. Vas a traducir este también al español?
Saludossss.
Hi Tim.
I liked your previous book. Are you going to translate this one to spanish?
Regards..
Ina
Tim Ferriss — October 4th, 2010, 10:14 pm
Espero que si! It depends on which Spanish language publisher buys the rights, as Random House doesn’t translate the books they publish.

Hi, I just saw your lecture on TED and was amazed, specially the last part where you said you want to apply what your learned to the education system.
I discovered your book in A.J Jacobs’s book “My life as an experiment” and it’s quite fascinating because I have been experimenting with languages, skills and pedagogy for as long as a remember.
My aim as an educator is now to apply what I have learned and help children.
Hope to talk to you and like minded people about this exciting adventure!
Looking forward to your new book

Under the “2) Big media opportunities for you” of your post, you mention sending in before/after pics with details of grand feats of weight loss, muscle gain etc. with help from your blogs. I would like the opportunity to participate in making your book a success as well as take advantage of this great media oopportunity. My QUESTION is when would you like these to be sent in by so that you may make the best use of them?
Thanks again Tim!

The president of Random House did an interview with Spiegel a few months back. Longish read but he was candid about his thoughts on the iBookstore and the future of e-books in particular.
I imagine you have the same or better information through connections, but worth a read for other interested readers.

Does any of this new-age “body mechanics” stuff actually work?
I am sure the book has many great things about how to become a healthier and happier person. But I would really like to see results from people who have tried this.
Tim, are you going to start posting videos of people who tried tips from your book and succeeded? I would really love to see someone who is terribly out od shape try the steps in your book and really change themselves for the better. The visuals would do wonders for those who remain doubtful.
Also, I owuld love to see and hear testimonials from people who tried tips in the book and utterly failed. I think that the people who failed would provide even more knowledge than those who succeeded. I like to hear stories of those who crashed and burned. I always learn something from those sort of testimonials.
Please, post some videos!

Hey Tim,
I’m yet another person who ordered the 4 copies of 4HWW Expanded Edition back in December for the advance copy of this book. I haven’t heard anything yet from your assistant Amy and I did send her an e-mail yesterday mentioning that I hadn’t gotten any information. I just want to make sure I’m doing everything right because, like the other 800 people here, I’m really excited about getting this new book. I sent my e-mail to amy at fourhourworkweek dot com (yes, I did write it correctly in the send field). Let me know if there’s something I’m missing here.
Best,
- Pat

Tim,
I just want to thank you for your post on the weight loss diet. Previous to the diet I had fatty liver disease, was 50lbs. overweight, and had very low testosterone levels. Life pretty much sucked at that point. I read the post and followed the diet to a “T” against everyone’s advice (even my wife’s). Now, 6 months later, I have normal testosterone levels and I lost 40+ lbs. I have also been following your weightlifting routine from your post and I feel strong and healthy. I am so grateful for your posts and look forward to my copy of the book shipping in December. I can’t thank you enough.
I plan on sending some before and after pics this week. I hope they will help with your book. I think that everyone could benefit from your knowledge.
Now if I can just figure out the muse thing….
Tim Ferriss — October 5th, 2010, 4:48 pm
Congratulations, Chris! That’s outstanding. I imagine your wife is OK with the diet now?
All the best,
Tim

I just ordered a copy of the new book, and a copy of the new version of 4HWW. Can wait to read 4HB for the first time and 4HWW again.
I tried you’re “Lose 20 lbs of fat in 30 days with out doing any exercise” diet last year as a way of cutting weight for a jiu jitsu tournament and it worked very well. Unfortunately I got injured and couldn’t compete in the tournament, (but that’s another story). Can’t wait to read the new book and and try out some of your experiments.
Thanks!!!

I hope there’s some info on AC 11 and DNA repair. I’m getting ready to try that for Type I diabetes, but it’s on the horizon for all sorts of autoimmune disease. Started supplements to heal my adrenal stress and cortisone deficiency a few weeks ago and my insulin requirements have been cut in half. I’ve yet to “meet” anyone online whose tried it. Traditional doctors poo-poo the whole idea.

Hey Tim, I just wondered what the next book was going to be about (after 4 hour body that is)
Tim R — October 5th, 2010, 2:25 pm
Hi Tim -
Before I bought my hardcover copy of “The Four Hour Work Week,” I discovered the audio-book version of it in my local library. I thought it was so terrific that I ordered the book online before I finished listening to the recording.
First, I want to thank you for sharing your blueprint for living with the universe. This is a groundbreaking reference for the modern day. Second, since listening and reading your book, I have been amazed by the useful content on your site. As a result, I have heard you speak on a number of your video and audio links, so I would like to offer a suggestion. Read your new book yourself.
The professional actor hired to read T4HWW is very good, but so much of your enthusiasm, nuance and contagious attitude does not translate in the reading by the actor. Rather than enthusiasm and friendliness, the actor occasionally sounds smug and superior. In your video and audio clips, you come off as accessible as a best friend – and that is a gift that can’t be trained. So if you have time NOT to outsource the reading of the new book, my advice is to do it yourself.
I use a fair number of voice over people in my work, so I tend to listen to voice talent more critically than most. It is a real art when it comes to casting the right voice. And yours is perfect for your book because you write a lot like you speak.
I have spread the word about you, your site and your book to more people than I can count. Thanks again for opening my eyes to your fresh ideas. I can’t wait for all of my friends to wake up to them, too.
PS A lot of people I know left “Social Network” in a blue, depressed funk. I recommended they pick up your book to find something hopeful in the often impersonal digital domain. It’s a real antidote to a world dominated by the directive, “press one to continue this call in English…”

I really can’t wait for this book to come out. I am most of the time an audiobook kind of guy, but I just might read this one if the audiobook doesn’t come out soon. I’m sure you’ll let us know when the audiobook is ready too.
Tim you are definitively the best. I will promote this book as much as I can!
Diana Houlihan — October 5th, 2010, 10:34 pm
Whew! Had to go back and check my e-mail to make sure I was getting the signed copy… Can’t wait!
Over the past couple years, I’ve lost about 80 lbs. through old fashioned hard work: a complete overhaul of my diet and a cross-training regimen (if you can call it that) of dancing, trail running, weight training, swimming, pilates and yoga. I want to take up outrigger canoe racing next!
A little late coming to Four Hour Work Week, but loving it so far. I plan on reading it again once I finish. Recommending it to everyone I know! Keep up the good work.
Gian — October 5th, 2010, 11:51 pm
To anyone who bought multiple copies of Tim’s signed book, would it be alright if I could please buy just one signed copy from any of you? I’m from Manila and it took me a while to ask my best friend if I could have Barnes & Noble ship it to him in the US. By the time he got back to me, it was too late–the product page didn’t have the pre-order button anymore. The 4HWW changed my life and I would just like to keep a signed personal copy for myself.
To Tim, thank you for your work. It really helps a lot. First three rounds of San Miguel beer on me when you find yourself in Manila.

Hey Tim, I pre-ordered my copy of “The 4-Hour Body” from Amazon the day you announced. “The Four-Hour Work Week” was a life-changing book for me, primarily in changing the way that I look at the world and how I approach life. I’ve been a fan and supporter ever since.
I only wish I didn’t have to wait until December to get the new book, but I know it’ll be worth the wait.
Andrew — October 6th, 2010, 12:42 pm
I am insanely excited for this book, I read four-hour work week and i’m currently searching up muses and such. I like the writing style and how you say stuff other writers are afraid to say, such as the economics, outsourcing, and other, and best of all you tested it.
Anyways I am even more interested in this book. I’ve been trying to find answers for tons of the common questions, but i do have one small question.
Is the “sleep 2 hours and feel like you slept 8″ polysapphic sleeping? cause this one is huge. I currently sleep around 6-7 hrs a day and really want to sleep less, but polysaphic sleeping is waaay to unconventional and hard for me to implement. If it is another technique i am very excited to read up on it.
Etheir ways I can’t wait for the book and wish you good luck.

Pre-ordered. The first book was awesome, and you seem more excited about this one. 4 hour workweek spawned an army of the “new rich” (myself included), with a dream that doesn’t include sheer accumulation – and this sounds like it will deliver on another dream (of weightloss, weight gain, energy, and other important human body information) where the capitalist medical industry and most other nothing but hype products and advice have failed us as consumers.

Hey Tim,
Quick question: I see this book covers a lot of physical performance based information. Do you talk about mental/brain/neurological performance? Enhancing memory, working out the brain, etc.
Also, I’m working on a bit of a hectic schedule right now. Your “sleep 2 hours and feel fully rested” bit intrigues me but I’d like to start doing that a bit sooner than December. Would you mind pointing me in the right direction so I can learn more about this? I’d appreciate it.
Let me know if you stop by Orlando some time. I owe you a round of drinks! My business is taking off and your book played a huge part in it.
Thanks mate,

The 4-hour Company (4HWW from the corporate perspective)
The 4-hour Government (Has oxymoron written all over it but Washington needs the help)
The 4-hour Education (getting kids reengaged and fixing our public schools)

Hi Tim
I think what you are doing is very good. I am a little troubled though.
Although I have purchased and read your first book I feel a huge amount of burnout in my life and find it very difficult to move ahead (Male : age 43). Keeping life interesting and exciting only seems to burn for a while then it fades. My successes seem to come and go but certainly don’t last. Is it at all possible that some will make it and some wont?
You seem to be amazingly energetic whereas it is difficult for me to rise above the hopelessness I currently feel.
Don’t mean to bring this post down – Like I say, you deserve a great life and you do good things, its just for me that I just haven’t found the solution yet and find the pressure to keep up (family and business) overwhelming.
Tim Ferriss — October 8th, 2010, 6:33 pm
Hi Matthew,
For me, I’ve found it’s all about surrounding myself with friends and slowing down. I need to schedule this, usually in the form of long dinners with 3 or more friends.
I hope that helps, and I know life can seem overwhelming. For what it’s worth, I’m certainly not immune to that feeling.
Best of luck,
Tim

Hi, Tim.
I’m sure this new book will cover both technical and lifestyle improvements. I’m likely to buy it, but I’ll wait until it’s released.
I would like to recommend some directions to explore for your third book, if they didn’t make it into this one:
* state training using behavioral vision therapy or one of its derivatives, practical exercises to improve integrative and performance states, states of flow.
* copying how children in Basque country are raised (they do not show lateralization of brain function similar to the rest of the world’s population). This might seem pointless but actually it’s central to to exploring a world of human ability and resourcefulness.
There’s a subculture of people in performance coaching who consider fast copying of human behavior (basically rapid learning) to be worth doing; that’s what I recommend you use in Basque country, basically copying until you behave like the kids do. Different.
Thank you for your work (I’m using your first book to help my mom with her Jewelry business, quite a stretch for me, but I’m inspired), and best of luck with your new book.

Hi Tim
I am waiting till the book comes to europe. If it is as good as fourhourworkweek, then for sure I’ll test it.
This is what can happen if somebody read your first book:
Quit the job, going for 4 Ironmans and 4 Ironman 70.3, Travel around and everything with my lovely wife.

Hey Tim,
Maybe it’s a function of getting older, or the increasingly tech-dominated world in which we all live, but I can’t remember the last time I was genuinely excited about getting my hands on a particular new book!
Pre-ordered and hoping the international shipping works (could only get paperback pre-order in the UK store, so went international instead)

Tim –
I am a fan. I ordered your kindle edition right after I heard your book was coming out. I just looked at the Amazon description a bit more carefully this AM and found that Kindle “Text to Speech” is DISABLED! Why? This is a big kindle feature for me as I do a lot of driving and I would like to pick up where I left off reading in the evening, in the car the next morning, and I really don’t want to be driving and reading at the same time!
Please consider enabling this feature upon release of your book so I can keep my eyes on the road……you must appreciate this use from an efficiency perspective, and I know you love better uses of technology so please…….please……….. consider removing the constraint. It is like a step backwards in time to have this feature disabled.

Tim, can’t wait, my first pre-order and for the Nook, so will have w/me all the time. As teacher have recommended (and given) 4HWW to many students going on to college or considering gap year.
Love the blog & hacks, use many, can’t wait for more.

Tim, I’m really looking forward for a book but before that, may I ask you a question?
What would be your best recommendation out of existing programmes for someone who has been weightlifting for ~5 years but hit a plateu few years ago. Assuming 1.1bodyweight benchpress & 1.3bodyweight deadlift & 1.5bodyweight squat 3×5, proper nutrition and a primary goal to get muscle mass (strength is secondary one).
Body by Science? Hypertrophy-specific training by Bryan Haycock? Old good 5×5, Rippetoe? Anything else?

You never cease to amaze me. I bought your first book in an audio version and listened to it on one breath
I truly enjoyed it. I am also a regular reader of this blog, where I find a ton of useful content that supplements what I have read in the book.
Now the new book also looks super cool. I just ordered it and hope it is as good as the 4HWW. Of course, all regular readers knew that we had a book on becoming a superhuman coming..

Tim Ferriss could come out with a book on gardening – which I’m not the least bit interested in – but I guarantee I’d read it cover to cover.
Tim- You’re results-oriented attitude and kick-ass down-to-business approach is an inspiration to me and the hundred or so people I’ve recommended you to. Keep up the great work amigo.
Ronster — October 11th, 2010, 6:54 pm
Timster, have you included the High-Water Low-Sodium diet in your book?
I tried this and lost 6 pounds over 12 days, and it’s simple:
1. Cut all sodium/salt out of your diet
2. Cut all white bread/pasta/rice
3. Whatever your weight, drink that amount of water in ounces
(example: if you weigh 200lbs, drink 200ounces water a day.)
Do this for a week and you’ll be amazed – the builtup salt and water weight just flushes out of your body (see the Waterfall diet for reference.)

Cody — October 13th, 2010, 9:05 am
Tim – you stud,
I’ve been looking deeper and deeper into the theory of eating for your blood type. Are you familiar with this? If not, research has shown certain blood types should only eat certain foods because they cannot digest certain foods or dubbed health foods for example (tomatoes, bananas, and meat) are not good for an “A” blood type, etc.
My wife and I have been doing tests to eat only foods that are supposedly ‘beneficial’ for each of our individual blood types and all placebo theories aside, we have noticed significant changes in how we feel, digest, and overall daily energy by testing this theory out.
Is any data on this in your book? If it isn’t I think you might be interested to dive deeper into this once you take a look at it. Maybe this can be info submitted by you into the, Revised Extended Version of the 4 Hour Body someday… (wink, wink).
To your success,
See you at the top my friend…

Matthew Ahearn — October 13th, 2010, 2:39 pm
Hi Tim
A friend of mine recommended your book.
I found the Four Hour Work Week in a city book store. The roads were blocked off due to a recent major earthquake here (measured 7.1 – Christchurch, New Zealand). The roads were so bad that I had to park my motorbike up on the pavement and stumble across potholes and bricks on the ground to get into the doorway. And there it was sitting in the store waiting for me (version with balloons on the front and a cute girl). I had already read your blog and watched some of your videos on the net so I was really hanging out for the book.
As I now work through your book I have noticed that my thinking is changing. I am amazed now at what opportunities have begun to present themselves. I’ve reduced my working hours, eliminated interruptions, this is a definite improvement to the quality of my life. That alone was worth buying the book.
Income has begin to increase and to date is steady. But of course its much more than the income. I’m spending more time with my family and I’m exercising, which is great and have room to think.
There is a transformative plan is this book that can be applied. I’m still uncovering new meaning as I move through. Very exciting
Thank you Tim for your effort, appreciated

There’s a first time for everything!
I’ve never pre-ordered a thing in my life until today. In fact, I’ve never posted in a forum or on a blog until today.
So what motivated me to do something that I’ve never done before? Well, first of all the book sounds ridiculously amazing, but more so, when a mentor like Tim asks for my help, you know I’m jumping at the opportunity. It’s like having your kung-fu master ask if you wouldn’t mind fetching him some tea. Are you kidding? I’m back-flipping myself to the well and fireballing the water to a boil.
One amazing thing about living in the digital age is that I can have a mentor like Tim Ferriss that doesn’t even know he’s my mentor. I feel kind of like the kid that’s hiding in a tree and secretly peering over the walls into the Shaolin temple to learn the secret techniques of the master. By the way, that’s always the kid that later saves the village and marries the chiefs incredibly beautiful daughter.
Ok, enough Black Belt Theater references.
One interesting thing about having a virtual mentor like Tim is the fact that he is able to motivate me even though the communication is one-way and without feedback. Is there such a thing as digital charisma? If so, Tim Ferriss is the Charlemagne of digital charisma.
Master Ferriss, I have returned from the well with your tea, may I be granted access to study the scrolls for the heavenly body of the five elements?
Tim Ferriss — October 18th, 2010, 5:01 pm
Dave!
Thanks so much for the incredibly kind comment and incredibly awesome kung-fu references. I will continue to do my best, and I really appreciate you taking the time to visit here. Upward and onward, Grasshopper
All the best,
Tim

Sadly, I couldn’t make the video chat with you yesterday which was a real shame. However, I did watch the recorded version and it was awesome. Many, many thanks for making the time to speak with your fans, it’s nice to know you’re human too (or should that superhuman?). I would love the chance to participate in the next live chat if there ever is one…
Also, will the new book be translated into Japanese? I noticed a Japanese copy of 4HWW in the book store the other day in Sapporo; I’m intrigued how your ideas have gone down amongst the dedicated-but-secretly-wanting-to-escape Japanese salary men/women. Is the revolution nigh?

Greetings Tim,
I just wanted to thank you for the early Christmas present you’ve given to us all by making your new book available just in time for holiday shopping.
I purchased the audio version of “The 4-hour Work Week” and listened to it about 50 times, so despite the fact I’ve watched every single episode of “The Random Show “I fear I will always expect you to sound like Ray Porter.
I have two questions:
1. In the audio version Mr. Porter uses the name Tom Ferriss when he’s calling Mr. Grisham. Was this intended? I’ve been wondering for a long time if you were asking us to pretend to be someone else with this challenge, or if this was just a recording error.
2. In “The 4-Hour Work Week” you say that critical errors you made when you started your company make it “impossible to sell”, but if I’m not mistaken you’ve since sold it. Will you ever go into detail regarding how you were able to overcome your critical errors?
You’re one of my heroes Tim! Simply because you’ve woken hundreds, if not thousands of us who never realized we were on the side of the brain-washed majority. Thank you for calling us to “pause and reflect” and for being a different drummer for us all.
Tim Ferriss — October 19th, 2010, 11:51 pm
Hey Matt,
Thanks for the comment!
1. Hahaha… totally a mistake.
2. Yes, I will talk about these. In the meantime, Google “The 4-Hour Exit” to learn a bit more.
Your notes are very kind, and I really appreciate it. Hope the best is yet to come on this blog!
Cheers,
Tim

Couldn’t help but notice that you are close to Kevin Kelly’s 1000 true fans from a comment perspective here. I know you’re an admirer of that article and probably realised this already but well done anyway.
Your approach to new, unusual challenges was something that has inspired me to try the following experiment :
“Try a new active pursuit for at least 6 months that ‘no close friend or family member’ has tried”
I’m 3 years and 6 sports in and it’s an experiment which I think you would appreciate and I hope to write about eventually.
Anyway, good luck with the book launch and thanks again.

author of the NO GRAIN DIET..it’s a tough thing to get the general population to change their ways of eating and thinking about food, especially when we’ve been brainwashed from the T.V. Ads into believing Betty Crocker,( nothin says luvin Like food from the oven!!) and the cute little doughboy..,,,!!.?
. Kudos to you Tim.
Jackie R — October 27th, 2010, 1:04 pm
OMG finally someone has actually shattered the American cookbook dream of Betty Crocker and the doughboy poisoning us with their cookies..!
Well that’s a trite harsh.I think the farmers that originally grew corn and wheat had no idea it would be going into humans rather than cattle and chickens… Kudos to you Tim, I learned of the no grain diet years Ago from Dr. Mercola. He wrote a book called The No Grain Diet. Although It’s not as through and to the point as yours. XoxoJackie

When will the new book be out in audio?
Fredrik Gyllensten — October 30th, 2010, 4:58 am
Hi Tim!
Just finished the 4-hour workweek and I’m looking forward to reading this new book.
One question; who would you consider your most influencial people in writing this book? To throw a few of my ‘mentors’ out there; what are your thoughts on Martin Berkhan, Alan Aragon, Lyle McDonald and Eric Cressey?
Uday — October 31st, 2010, 6:48 am
Dear Tim,
Around last Christmas, you had a promotion to receive an advance copy of The 4 Hour Body if we purchased 4 copies of TFHWW. Never received mine. Who would be the best person to take care of this?
Thanks in advance,
Uday
Tim Ferriss — October 31st, 2010, 1:06 pm
Hi Uday,
Thanks for the comment. The advanced copies haven’t shipped yet! I’ll ping Amy just to make sure you’re on the list
Thanks much,

Hallo Tim!
I´m from Austria and I can´t wait to get your book….
Do you also bring out a German Version of “The four hour body”????
If you do, is the German book also available in Dezember??
Schönen Tag noch Tim…
PS: Kommst du auch mal nach Österreich (Austria)??

))
Do you understand??

Tim Ferriss — October 31st, 2010, 6:31 pm
Hi Kelly,
I’d love to get back to Austria! Wonderful place. The book should come out in Deutsch, but I don’t know when, as it depends on the German publisher.
Bis dann!

Kelvin — November 1st, 2010, 3:28 am
Hi Tim, it would seem that I am but one of a superlative many looking forward to your upcoming release!
I first discovered your blog earlier this year when I stumbled across your interview with Pavel Tsatsouline (this Russian’s strength training principles attests his wisdom!), and subscribed soon after. The way we both think is rather similar – I, too, have experimented with my own life in various unorthodox ways, and have dabbled in numerous methods to improve efficiency. However, I do have a (little less than) 40-hour work week (as a health professional, no less), and have found that although many techniques do indeed work, there are almost always undesirable side effects (usually health related – skin conditions are one of the best signs of such deterioration).
Furthermore, what may work extremely well for one person in a given situation, rarely works to the same effect in another. Although I’m not an advocate of something as radical as the blood-type diet, there are most certainly inherent differences between different “types” of people, e.g. lactase production between Northern European descendents and Asians. That said, I’m highly anticipating this “book of revelations”. Oh, and btw, according to Steve Pavlina, extreme polyphasic sleep can work… I’m guessing that this is how you can survive on only 2 hours of sleep a day. However, I wouldn’t recommend this for anyone who has a “normal” job with “normal” work hours
You definitely could use a forum around here, Tim. Cheerio from the land of the so-precious-we-changed-our-laws-for-Warner Bros Hobbit. ^_^

It sounds good that the content of your book has a lot of information. It awakens my curiosity about it. Kindly post more info with regards the essential message of your book.
Vladimir Lojanica — November 2nd, 2010, 11:20 am
Hi Tim,
I’ve been really maltreated by Barns and Noble.
I’ve pre-ordered you new book on 30th of September using the link from this page. I guess it would have been the signed copy. I even wrote a comment on the blog on the same day (signed Vladimir, “pre-ordered for Serbia”).
On 31th of October I’ve received an e-mail from B&N Sales Audit Group, informing me that my order has been canceled, because, according to them, I had not provided additional info they’ve requested. But I was never contacted by them, not by e-mail, nor by any other means.
I’ve replied immediately and today (2th of November) I’ve received new e-mail, stating that my order has been canceled by their automated system and there is nothing else that could be done. They suggest that I place new order (although I’ve already explained them that it wouldn’t be the same).
And still they gave me no reason for this cancelation.
To make the things worse, they’ve canceled my order, but money reservation on PayPal account is still pending.
I’ve complained to B&N customer support this morning, still no response from them.
Now, I guess they will eventually cancel the reservation (by now they are only liars, if they do not cancel it, they will be thieves), but is there a chance that I receive signed copy if I make new order to, let’s say Amazon or some other retailer?
Thanks
Vladimir
Tim Ferriss — November 2nd, 2010, 11:05 pm
Hi Vladimir,
I’m so sorry to hear this. I just sent an email to B&N. Hopefully, someone will be in touch with you soon. Again, so sorry!
All the best,
Tim

Kris — November 4th, 2010, 2:52 am
Tim,
I know this is solid gold but I can’t stand reading – it’s too slow. I can only listen to audio books. Is there any way to pre-order a digital audio book? To this end, will it be on iTunes on release date?
Tell you what, I’ll shovel 5 traditional copies to family and friends for Christmas if you can sell me 1 new way of reading by release date. Deal?
Also, why the hell wouldn’t non hardback copies count? That makes an unbelievable amount of no sense.
The interesting thing is I bet your buyer demographic is disproportionately high in audio book users. Of course we’ll buy one way or another but maybe you start throwing your name around at the publishers office. Maybe things get done a little differently. Maybe I’m listening to an audio book sooner than later. Maybe you make a lot more money and we’re all the better.
Tim Ferriss — November 4th, 2010, 3:25 am
Hi Kris,
If you shovel five books to your fam and friends, I can promise an audiobook available on or near pub date. Actually, I’ll guarantee that no matter what
Best,
Tim
Kris — November 4th, 2010, 3:37 am
Damn, should have held out for something that wasn’t already predestined.
Thanks for keeping the purchase price non-outrageous. Here’s to 6 out of 600,000.
Rhonda Swan — November 4th, 2010, 3:44 am
TF,
I am with Chris on the audio books. Of course I bought the book itself, because we dig you and support you but I think you probably have equal if not more customers that prefer listening over reading. (ultimate multi-tasking)
I had to drop the 20 lbs. of books I was traveling with when we started our “Endless Mini Retirement” 2 years ago and opted for a subscription to http://www.Audible.com and Itunes.
Can we have an audio by launch?
Tim Ferriss — November 4th, 2010, 4:41 pm
That’s the plan, but I can only make my publisher do so much! Doing my best. Thank you for your support
Rhonda Swan — November 4th, 2010, 3:48 am
Scratch the last comment….went back to Amazon and see the audiobook!!
done deal.
This will make my travels much lighter..I will give the book away for Christmas!
Daniel Holt — November 6th, 2010, 4:23 pm
Do you think you will every make a much larger book on the subject of physical activity and God like performance with nutrition and supplement strategies. Like a bible or a masterpeice. I’m sure once the recession is over something with that scope would sell very well to the purests. Definitely not apart of the mass audience you are influencing, but something I and others would love to read. It may be considered a pivotal book to trainers, researchers, and such.
Can muscle protein be converted to fat in the absense of fat? I’m second guessing myself on it.
Daniel Holt — November 6th, 2010, 4:32 pm
I also wanted to say that if you didn’t share it I’d like to read further on your fitness journey, supplementation store, and experimentation with the personal insights you gathered while you did it.
Have you have heard of getting an angel in your presence for collapsing? It’s kinda like rebooting a computer. I may work well to supplement with sleep, though I’ve only done it once with an advanced yoga instructor. I can apparently summon them with thought as long as I look in the mirror as I do it. Not sure if I can do this everyday or only on select occasions. I can’t collapse in my house because there’s not enough space for my build and it would feel very akward. Meditation/making full breathes a habitual pattern also helps with sleep.

Please explain as much as you can, how much content in your book will be new versus republished from your blog?
You gained a lot of trust from me because of the “Slow-carb” diet. I then bought the 2nd version of the 4hour work week and wasn’t impressed with the additional information. Did I miss it?

Less than 10% of the book is re-edited content from the blog.
Hope that helps!

Hey Tim,
Can’t wait to get a hold of my two copies of the book! I have been working the guinea pig project where we are taking a guy and testing all the theories on weightloss and health on him to see what is most effective for the average man to achieve results.
Wanted to ask if we can use some of the things from the book to test on our guinea pig and reference the book on our website. Don’t wanna step on any toes but we are really keen to get some great results.
Also your advise on what key indicators of success you would use? Other than body composition and performance based markers.
Cheers
Jeff
Tim Ferriss — November 24th, 2010, 9:03 am
Hi Jeff,
There are lots of variables and metrics to track in the book, so I think you’ll enjoy the guinea pig alignment. For sure, feel free to test whatever you like and report the outcomes. All I would ask is that you don’t post a ton of content from the book without before/after. In other words, only post the approach after you’ve spent some time on it.
Best of luck!

Hello Tim,
We are getting close to publication date so here is the comment I owe you. Michael Davenport, a colleague in your blog’s comments section, offered me one of his five copies. (Sadly, he did not make it to the video chat with you.) Would you prefer that I take him up on his offer? I understand that you are a very busy person and that you may not offer the signed copies again.
Let me know what you think. Let me know when you’ll be in Manila. Have you been here before? A nice time would be December-April to avoid the monsoon. Well, it really depends on what you’re after, if you prefer summer to the rainy season.
Regards,
Gian

Hey Gian,
Please keep an eye on the blog. There’s at least an 80% chance I’ll have a few extra copies. If you don’t see it in the next 10 days, please feel free to take Michael up on the offer!
I have not been to Manila yet.
Salamat

Tim,
I’m anxiously awaiting your book… you know the new yr is when alot of ppl get that weight loss itch. So sitting here in my sister’s bookshelf is “The Weight Loss Cure” by Trudeau and I flip through it to get to the meat of the matter. While I find a few similarities between his suggestions and yours from the blog, his protocol is 4 phases, phase 1 has 60 steps and phase 2 requires injecting yourself with hCG under medical supervision. Please promise me 4HB isn’t THAT complicated! I love the simplicity of the instructions in 4HWW, I really hope the same is true for 4HB.

This has been driving me crazy. Does a 12 rep max set involve type 1, 2 fast twitch, and slow twitch muscle fibers? I think it only takes one minute for type 2 to fully recover whereas it take 5 minutes for type 1 to recover. Am I right? Do you offer detailed information on this particular subject in your book? Does the 1-6 max rep range offer it’s own particular benefits not found in the 12 rep max range? Does plyometrics work out a different set of fast twitch muscle fibers other than the ones I just mentioned.
Thank You.

Maybe you should do research on to why that really is, it’s an epidemic these days, so many young men going bald including myself. I think it’s tied in with diabetes and glucose levels. Doing well on the Slow Carb Diet. It’s only been a week, but already I have more energy. Beans, beans, beans…and beano! My husband has started using the diet, as well. Looking forward to seeing results. I’m using the kettlebells (25lbs) at the gym, but they only have 25lb, then 50lb. Guess I’ll use 25 until I’m ready to double. Just took my meaurements! Tim –
I’m officially past my first “eat anything you want day” for the slow carb diet. Fantastic results so far – 6-8 LBS lost in 7 days (depending on weighing in the AM or PM, before or after whizzing
I don’t remember this from the book, so thought I would blog and ask others – has anyone else felt like on their “free for all day” they actually didnt have the appetite for some of the old foods like ice cream, pancakes, and pizza that they used to? I set out yesterday to eat all of that stuff, but just couldn’t put it down.
Also, if anyone out there has come up with a succinct, crisp list of what workouts to do and frequency of each, that would be greatly appreciated.
I’m no webmaster, but I created the website that you see above (completely, 100% free) in order to share my progress and results with friends and family (for motivation purposes). If anyone is interested in the template, send me a note and i’ll fire it over to you.
Thanks,
Derek

I have so many questions about the plan and whats good and what isnt but we’ll see how it goes!!
Anyway, good luck and keep your blog updated!!
Derek Gillaspy — January 19th, 2011, 5:02 am
Hey Stuart – Just updated again – It’s been tough to keep up since I got back from xmas vacation. They key is that I haven’t quit, I’ve just quit typing every single meal that I eat.
I’m back in the 170′s for the first time since the summer of 2009. I haven’t seen the 160′s since 2000, although I’m not sure that’s what my goal is. My goal is strictly body-fat %.
I find that all the “little things” add up – cinnamon, lemon juice, garlic, green tea, etc.
My Mom (50) and my dad (51) are both doing it as well. My Dad and I started xmas eve and my mom started New Year’s day. Dad is down to 188 from 202 and Mom is down to 118 from 125!
Tim’s Sh!t is the homerun of diets.
I would also admit freely that I’ve been about 70-80% disciplined because I simply have a hard time stopping at 2 glasses of wine. I also initially started out with “trash Tuesday” since that happened to be my “free for all eating day” the first time it came around.
I’m getting rid of “trash Tuesday” in favor of “Super Saturday” and looking forward to plowing a gallon of ice cream this weekend.
Just started working out – I just go to the classes that my local gym offers for free (the Yoga girl is stunning
, and I really need the flexibility.
I think Tim’s got it right – 60% diet, 30% exercise….10% supplements, etc.
i’ve also started the protein shakes religiously after each workout (within 30 minutes).

We have the book, but need a few questions answered asap–like by Monday!
Is unsweetened lite almond milk ok?
Tomato/pasta sauce without sugar ok?
Sour cream?
Crab?
Shrimp?
Does the meat need to be lean?
Chicken with skin or without?
Thank you!

Tim,
I pre-ordered your signed copy of the 4hr Body back in September via Barnes and Noble’s website. So far they have sent me emails explaining that they are unable to ship the book, then a 30 day extension email. They list an expected ship date of December 14th, which has obviously passed. Of course I saw copies at my local store.
I have to assume, I am no longer receiving a signed copy as I would have expected those copies to have been done early on. Any ideas?
Anyone else experiencing the same issue? Congrats on the success of the book!

Dear Tim,
I am half way through the book…thank you for the tons of stimulating material. I have one question though about stretching methods as I am sportive, but not very flexible and parts of my body, especially legs have short muscles or short tendons. Do you have any recommendation on 4hourstretching methods for more flexibility?
Viele Grüße,
Alex

@Justin:
Yes, similar thing here: (pre)ordered a signed copy on September 30th – B&N says the book has been shipped to Germany but still no 4HourBody Book here (I expected it to arrive before xmas)…don’t know what’s the reason for such a long shipping period…
…and Amazon bugs me to buy the book because I bought 4HWW through them and might like that one too…grrrr….
@Tim:
any Ideas what to do (besides ordering another copy through another shop, obviously)? I’d *like* to buy 5 other copies of your book as a gift for friends and familiy members, but I like to give presents that I like myself, which I assume but cannot truly say without actually reading the book…
Anyway, congrats to the (in my eyes) very successful book launch – keep on hacking those lists!
Alles Gute,
Gabriel
Cyndi — January 11th, 2011, 12:40 pm
So my husband and his brothers and wives and I all started the 4-hour body January 3rd. I am usually very active working out about 5-6 times per week for at least 30-60min. Per the book, I have taken that way down and have done just the KB exercises. I followed the diet plan to a T. On other diets (specifially a detos one I like that limits food to protein, veggies, and fruit, similar to the 4-hour body if you switch the fruit with beans) I usually lose 5-10 pounds the first week. One my first week of the 4-hour I lost 2!!!! Also, my cheat day was Sunday and I weighed this morning and I’m up a pound so really I’ve only lost 1 pound so far. WTH…what am I doing wrong? I have read the book over and over and am following it exactly. HELP!! Everyone else is having success except me!
karen s — January 27th, 2011, 6:45 am
Hi Cyndi. I have not lost any weight either, but I did lose one inch. I follwed the diet without supplements PGG, and I have had a few cappuccinos. Have you started losing wieght yet? What change did you make? I think I need to cut back portions and start counting calories because I can’t figure what else to do.
let me know how you are doing.
karen s — January 31st, 2011, 5:04 am
Hi Cyndi, Tim and all,
so, I have started losing weight. 6 pounds in three days! I wasn’t eating enough apparently. Not enough beans, specifically. I was travelling in India when I started the diet and couldn’t get beans at every meal. And, the beans I got had cocunut milk in them. So, now that I am home and am eating beans exactly as Tim describes it, the weight is coming off. Protein, beans and veggies at every meal. I was also able to get the supplements. I am not hungry because I can eat as much as I want. I was even able to have a glass of red wine at a party I went to. I am looking forward to my cheat day, but this way of eating is suiting me well so far.
Cyndi, relook at EXACTLY what you are eating and perhaps you will find something. Post your food and water intake and perhaps we can comment. It helped me when I did that on Tim’s blog.
Thanks for the great book Tim. and, thanks for the 4 hour work week, too! love them both as they have shifted my life!
best,
karen
precious — January 12th, 2011, 1:16 am
@ Cindy: Yeah, I’m not having any success euther. Today I was back at exactly where I was last Monday. So unless I lose 6 pounds by the end of the week, it’ll be a bust so far…
Abha — January 12th, 2011, 7:46 am
I pre-ordered the signed copy in September. Got an email from B&N that it was shipped on December 14th. Paid more than the price of the book for getting it shipped to the UK but there is still no sign of the book!!!! Written to B&N, tried calling but no good.
Glad to know that there are few more unlucky ones like me.
Magnar — January 13th, 2011, 6:41 am
I too pre-ordered the signed copy in September. However, I have not received any email about the order being shipped (it’s still listed with a Dec 14 expected ship date), but B&N did charge my credit card at Dec 15. I am unable to get through to customer service either by phone or email.
Any ideas of how to get through to them?
Magnar — January 14th, 2011, 1:04 am
Never mind. I just received my copy after all
Karl Dennis — January 15th, 2011, 7:56 pm
Hi Tim,
Congratulations on the success of the book. I prepaid for the hardcover book and ordered the kindle in the meantime, as I live in Australia and I knew that it would likely take some time for it to arrive – and I could not wait.
THE ONLY THING IS, I did not get a signature anywhere in the book. I may have misunderstood the original posting, though I wanted to check with you. I am sure you cannot go through all the books you sent out to find my order, but I purchased this item on October 2, 2010 and paid a lot for the international shipping. If it helps cut down time for this, my amazon order was 104-5159406-5234669. Its silly
though I am a fan, and I was kind of excited about that.
Please let me know if I made a mistake, sorry for the hassle.
Hope to hear from you soon. Bye for now.
Karl.

Hi Karl,
B&N messed up a ton of orders, which has made me furious. I’m so sorry. Please keep an eye on your inbox.

It would be awesome if you ever made a 4 hour body video DVD to demonstrate how you go through your 30 minute workout, stretching and all. Obviously to show all the alternative exercises and other types of fitness other than weight lifting that you mentioned in the book, and how to go about that throughout the day. You did a good job of talking about it in your book, only 155 pages into the book, but it would make it so much easier to process it if I saw you perform your routine and daily fitness tips on video. I’m also interested in seeing your tempo, pacing, etc.

hi all, an update here from me. My fiancee and i started this diet to help us lose weight and get back in shape for our August wedding. Over the last 5 years we’ve been together we have gained serious weight!
My fiancee and I started this diet on Monday 10th (took weight and measurements on Sunday however). FYI i had a starting weight of 230.4lbs. On Saturday 15th i had my cheat day and wanted to establish Saturday as my regular cheat day. Between the 10th and the 15th i ate generally the following:
Breakfast – 2 hard-boiled organic eggs, 2-3 slices of bacon, water, multi-vitamin & 2 digestive aid supplements.
Mid morning – black coffee (2 cups)
Lunch – Big salad (balsamic vinaigrette) with chicken breast (montreal seasoning), lima beans, raw carrots.
Supper – Chicken or steak or fish, edamame beans with sea salt, salad or veggies.
A couple of things/comments (both positive and negative). I had more energy on this diet (after day 2) than i have ever had in my life – my fiancee struggled a bit for the first 4 days. We did NO exercise (actually, 2 mornings i did the 60 seconds of light exercise Tim recommends). We ate very big portions of each component of each meal. We drank a lot of water. The diet is not as cheap as the book states. Through my food choices we ended up doing a lot of cooking. It requires pre-planning.
After all this i lost 7.2lbs in 5 days! I am stunned. Delighted but still a bit wary because… I had only a very slight reduction in body fat %…. my tummy seems bigger/bloated than when i started and i dont know why.
My fiancee lost just under 6lbs!
Overall though this seems to really work. I have introduced some minimal exercise this week (purchased wii fit plus and will actually start using my treadmill regularly!).
I am seriously lazy but this diet is easy. And it gets results. i will update here next week.
StuartC — January 17th, 2011, 8:37 am
Oh! One final question – Tim why are you playing with a hurling stick in your photo at the top?!?! Thats quite random! (Im Irish but moved to Canada a few years ago-thats why i recognise the hurley!)
Robert Longley — January 17th, 2011, 11:56 am
I’m finding that just about any recipe that is normally served over rice does quite well over mashed cauliflower. It doesn’t absorb flavors that might be in flavored rice dishes, but if the recipe is over white rice, you probably won’t notice a huge difference – other than the carbs.
Enjoy,
Rob

Hey Tim,
I am trying to apply some of your suggestions from the 4HB. I have started the PAGG stack, as well a many techniques from the Slow Carb Diet.
I am wondering what workouts you would recommend. I want to do some combination of ‘Occams Protocol’ (A and B workouts) combined with some performance excercises of ‘Effortless Superhuman’. How do I combine these 2 different workouts into one regime?
Tim Ferriss — January 17th, 2011, 6:44 pm
I would do Effortless Superhuman first for 4-8 wks, then shift to Occam’s. They don’t combine well at the same time.
Brandon — January 17th, 2011, 6:23 pm
Tim,
I hope this message finds you well. I know you are extremely busy, but I could use a little help.
The 4HB is great, but I need some clarification.
I have begun the diet and it is simplistic and tasty. Can you use Athletic Greens as a substitute for your veggies?
I struggle with the workout (I question is the workout is enough). If I do more than the MED do I risk jepordizing the results?
Lastly Supplementation; Do you only take the PAGG and Super Cissus RX during binge days? If not, do you have a schedule that you could please post or send to me?
Thank you
Shane — January 19th, 2011, 3:59 am
Thanks Tim – i’ve been on 4HB for 8 days and am already down 14lbs!
I’m in a weight loss challenge that ends in 2 months and am also training for my first Ironman triathlon.
I’m confused about this section “Mistake #7 – Hitting the Gym to Often”
are the only risks over eating? I’m used to training 2+ hours a day for my triathlons… can i still swim bike and run or should i just stick to the ABCs?
i’m looking forward to trying your 5k to 50k protocol after the weight loss program. thanks for any advice you can give – i’ve already convinced a dozen friends to buy the book..
Christopher — January 19th, 2011, 4:18 am
Tim,
Got your book from a friend and it has been great. However, I have started to see a plateau in my weight loss and can not seem to figure out from what. I have gone over you mistakes section and the only thing I can think of is that I am unable to eat a meal right after waking, I can get a shake in but I can not eat for another few hour do to my work schedule. I have also switched from 4 meals a day to 3 and back to see if that spiked anything, and nope. I have lost some inches and not lbs # but have stopped losing in the areas I still need to cut few more inches on. Just looking to see if you have an idea or anyone has a thought to kick the loss back on track. Thanks!

Daniel Holt — January 19th, 2011, 3:05 pm
You’re book is over 500 pages long and it’s spread out, so a video to put everything into perspective with cycling routines and putting the information together would be very helpful. You’ve got to go back to various chapters and try to memorize important details that work very well as a whole, but are spread out so it’s not the easiest to digest.
What is your heart rate elevated to after having each PAGG and how many hours does it stay there? What is the heart rate elevated to during and after your 30 minute workouts, how long does it stay there? What is the heart rate elevated to after the exercise sessions after each meal and for how long does it stay there?
Shane — January 19th, 2011, 3:45 pm
I don’t think the point of PAGG is to elevate heart rate – unlike ECA – which sped-up heart rate thanks to caffiene – PAGG focuses on leveling insulin levels . heart rates will vary from person to person depending on intensity – mine goes up to 178 during very hard aerobic and/or kettlebell sessions.
Daniel Holt — January 19th, 2011, 3:56 pm
Are you sure PAGG doesn’t elevate the heart rate? If you find it’s over 90 beats a minute after taking in PAGG then your heart rate is definetely elevated. The heart rate would likely be elevated after doing jumping squats following a meal. How long it is elevated is the question. This would show great evidence of how such great amounts of weight loss is possible while only lifting weights an hour a week, and I assume no running. Maybe some sprinting too, I think that’s apart of Tim’s plan. Women, where weight loss is much more difficult because they’re usually much lighter than guys and carry far less lean body mass, are saying they’re losing 20 pounds of body fat in just three weeks following this plan. I can see that being possible with elevated heart rates and putting on more muscle at the same time, and supporting the growth and consistancy with plenty of complex carbohydrate intake.
Henry — January 19th, 2011, 10:53 pm
Tim,
I started reading your book. I haven’t finished it yet and forgive if the answer to my question is in the book. You’re such a detail oriented person and this is a huge book. Do you work in the calories burnt from reading this book into any of you diets or weight loss programs? If not you should…HAHA!
Keep up the good work because it is much appreciated!!!

First off appologies for TMI but has any one had GI issues on this diet? I’ve been following all of the slow carb rules and have seen amazing results. But I’ve also had stomach pains and diarrhea for the past 6 days. I can’t tell if it’s th diet or the supplements or a stomach bug or something else. My energy levels feel good and I’m also taking a probiotic to help. I’m wondering what I can do to fix things without ruining my diet with bananas or rice. Any suggestions?

Keep it real
karen s — January 27th, 2011, 6:24 am
Hi Tim.
I really like the book a lot. I bought it on my way to india, I followed the slow carb diet for 2 weeks in India and referenced the book almost daily. I wasn’t able to get all of the supplements there, but I did have alpha lipoic acid 150mg with each meal. I have been enjoying eating this way, but unfortunately, I have not lost any weight yet. I did lose just under 2 inches. I thought I would have lost more by now. Frankly, I am eating pretty big portions (because you wrote “eat as much as you want”) but it is all nice fish, veg and legumes that you have on your list. I am trying to figure out what to change. I did have two cappuccinos—so perhaps that compromised it with the dairy? (I couldn’t resist). I also did yoga for 3 hours daily as I was on a yoga teacher training course and did the air squats and push ups. I can’t imagine I was doing too much exercise. Maybe too little? just for reference, I am 76kg and 5’7″. so, I have at least 12kg to lose. not obese, but have a fair bit I’d like to lose. I would appreciate any insight you might have.
thank you.

Hi Tim,
I just bought your book today after seeing your segment on Dr. Oz. This is great!
I am wondering if there is an alternative to grapefruit juice — to open muscle receptors (aside from air squats). I am concerned about the grapefruit interaction with medications.
For example, will lemon juice work?
Thank you,

Ed Marriott — February 3rd, 2011, 2:00 pm
@ Susie
NO. The ingredient in grapefruit juice that effects medications is precisely what makes it effective. Lemon juice doesn’t contain it

After hearing Matt Mira (@Nerdist) has had a ton of success on your regimen, I thought I would go out and buy this book to see for myself.
I have had your book for a couple of weeks before starting it up to make sure I fully understand what the plan of attack is for weight loss. As a scientist myself, I thought it was quite well researched (vastly better than most journal articles that I’ve come across), and somewhat easy to read for the layman.
I am currently on day 2 with my wife. I hope this works out-I know I want to drop 20 and my wife does too. (But will be happy with 10-15 if I’m honest). So far, although hungry at times, I will continue on with the experiment to see what changes (if any) appear in the mirror. I am optimistic on the plan, I do quite miss whole wheat bread/oatmeal, skim milk, and fruit for breakfast.
What are your thoughts on using a bit of BBQ sauce?
Cheers!

I read your book and thought it was very good. There are key things about nutrition/supplementation and learned from it and feel your book is pivotal for athletics. I’d combine several of your different workout and exercise protocols together to get the combined results, which would still be a very short condensed routine compared to most workout protocols. People can lose lots of bodyfat in a short period of time following your book. I do wish you expanded on eating on a budget while bulking, and the principals of eating while on a budget. I hope you make a condensed book for nutrition, supplementation, health, workout, and fitness knowledge of a guide to follow much shorter than this book, like 100 pages that also explains what key supplements and foods to consume as this book recommended a ton in each chapter. It offered lots of interesting research and sources to go no other book talks about so a must have for people into top quality health and fitness. You should have charged $100 for the book as I would have paid that much for it. It’s that good.
Daniel Holt — September 4th, 2012, 11:00 pm
Such as expanding on the science and principals of macronutrient composition for losing fat, maintaining bodyweight, and bulking muscle or even losing fat and bulking with muscle at the same time. The precise amount of calories in the precise ratios, when to time eating meals for fat loss, for the amount of lean body mass a person carries under the different heart rate ranges. The science of a carbohydrate food plan under the different heart rates for exercise and the science of ketogenic dieting. And also the spin of ketogenic dieting with the slow carb approach.
You can go see a specialist to get your legs lengthened by up to 8 inches, you might be able to do the arms too. Don’t know about the whole body though. It may or may not look good. I have a lot more potential as an athlete with my stocky legs than if I were to get them lengthened, as it’s considered genetically gifted to be built like this. You can acquire a lot more strength with stocky legs. Taller guys are weak because they don’t have nearly as much strength or core balance so they’re easy to topple and their hits are very weak. While they have greater range their hits are weak and you can just get inside of them easily unless you’re borderline retarded. Only way then they can beat you or intimidate is with a supernatural curse that cheats you over and defeats the points you make. But then they’re garbage for doing that and they know it. It’s good to acquire great strength and athletic ability for competitions, for health, and to open yourself up to future oppurtunities. I’m 5’9″, stocky, and have broad shoulders with a build that was naturally bigger than most people. Most guys, even tall ones, are very weak and I’m stronger/have more usable strength than 99% of guys naturally with good training. Strength itself isn’t usable unless you train yourself how to use it with one peice strength, explosive lifting, anaerobic/aerobic training, and heavy power lifting along with bodybuilding and yoga/stretching.
Daniel Holt — September 4th, 2012, 11:06 pm
I can beat up 99% of guys (including all the tall ones) with Tim Ferriss’ types of training, and I did very similar training before I read the book so the book was very familiar to me. I’m sure Brock Lesner, David Tate and highly trained mixed martial artists with usable strength and skill could beat me but they spend hours and years training for it on top of being huge, strong, and having lots of physical strength they developed through lots and lots of steroids, but they had lots of natural ability too. Some of those guys in MMA that are physically weaker I could pummel even if they trained for years. Some guys are physically bigger, sometimes even stronger, but they don’t train balance, flexibility, or even how to use their strength in the cateogries I listed in the previous message so I could still wipe the floor with them.

Still the health concerns mar the overall positive sides of this economic growth as people take their health problems as the cost of
development which is indeed pretty higher. Before you apply
heated gadgets onto your hair, protect your hair with heat protectant sprays and
also serums. Black hair has a distinctive composition that makes it sensitive to breakage.
All-natural oils such as olive, coconut, and avocado oil can be used as wonderful hot oil treatments for
hair. * Apply oil unto your hair – Run your fingertips
through your hair and rub it in an even way.
