The New Book Unveiled: The 4-Hour Body 1,123 Comments

Topics: The 4-Hour Body - 4HB

Data crunching back to age 18. Three years of organizing self-experiments around the world. Thousands of blood tests and hundreds of case studies.

My new book is finally here: The 4-Hour Body.

I could not be happier with the end product. Truly, I am ecstatic.

If you want a minimalist guide to hacking the human body, this is it.

In each chapter (more than 50 topics total), I test everything on myself so you don’t have to. In “Reversing ‘Permanent’ Injuries,” for example, I tested the moderate options like over-the-counter supplementation and Feldenkrais, but I also imported stem-cell growth factors from Israel and had them injected. That was just for starters. The end result of that chapter? 90%+ of the injuries that plagued me for decades are now gone. I’m stronger and faster than I was at age 20.

If you want to know the two safe things out of 100 that worked abnormally well, I can tell you…

The 4-Hour Body is also designed to read unlike any diet or fitness book, which it isn’t. It’s more like a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book for the human body, full of ridiculous stories, practical philosophies, and larger-than-life characters.

Here’s the back cover description:

THINNER, BIGGER, FASTER, STRONGER… which 150 pages will you read?

Is it possible to:
Reach your genetic potential in 6 months?
Sleep 2 hours per day and perform better than on 8 hours?
Lose more fat than a marathoner by bingeing?

Indeed, and much more. This is not just another diet and fitness book.

The 4-Hour Body is the result of an obsessive quest, spanning more than a decade, to hack the human body. It contains the collective wisdom of hundreds of elite athletes, dozens of MDs, and thousands of hours of jaw-dropping personal experimentation. From Olympic training centers to black-market laboratories, from Silicon Valley to South Africa, Tim Ferriss, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The 4-Hour Workweek, fixated on one life-changing question:

For all things physical, what are the tiniest changes that produce the biggest results?

Thousands of tests later, this book contains the answers for both men and women.

From the gym to the bedroom, it’s all here, and it all works.

YOU WILL LEARN (in less than 30 minutes each):

- How to lose those last 5-10 pounds (or 100+ pounds) with odd combinations of food and safe chemical cocktails.
- How to prevent fat gain while bingeing (X-mas, holidays, weekends)
- How to increase fat-loss 300% using temperature manipulation
- How Tim gained 34 pounds of muscle in 28 days, without steroids, and in four hours of total gym time
- How to sleep 2 hours per day and feel fully rested
- How to produce 15-minute female orgasms
- How to triple testosterone and double sperm count
- How to go from running 5 kilometers to 50 kilometers in 12 weeks
- How to reverse permanent injuries
- How to add 150+ pounds to your lifts in 6 months
- How to pay for a beach vacation with one hospital visit

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There are more than 50 topics covered, all with real-world experiments, many including more than 200 test subjects.

You don’t need better genetics or more discipline. You need immediate results that compel you to continue.

That’s exactly what The 4-Hour Body delivers.

Now The Real Fun Begins

Here we go:

1) The ask
2) Big media opportunities for you
3) An offer to friends in media.

THE ASK:

I try not to ask for too much on this blog, but today I will ask a favor: if this book sounds interesting to you, please take a moment to order it today. I’ve never worked harder on something, it’s my sophomore act, and pre-orders are critically important in the publishing world.

The book is on-sale now but will ship on December 14th. Here’s why you should pre-order now:

- You will not be charged for the book(s) until they ship in December, but ordering (really like reserving) a copy now really, really helps me.

- What would make a better X-mas gift? My dad lost more than 70 pounds using two chapters. Please consider getting a few copies for your family, loved ones, or best friends. I promise that they will not be disappointed. Ordering now means you can’t forget.

- Last but not least, your help would mean the world to me. Pre-orders will largely determine how much support retailers give this book. It’s crazy, but only hardcover sales count towards the bestseller lists. If you’ve benefited from my last book or writing on this blog, I would really appreciate your help. This has been the biggest project of my life.

The 4-Hour Body is available on Amazon, BN.com, and these online retailers.

Thank you!

BIG MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES:

Have you lost weight, gained muscle, or otherwise changed your body as a result of blog posts I’ve written? If so, you could be featured on major TV and in big mainstream media. Please e-mail your details and (important, if you have them) pictures to jenny.rabun-at-gmail-dot-com. No professional before-and-after pics needed, but something that shows your before and after appearance, even in normal clothes, is helpful to producers.

Ladies — that means you, too! Help a brother out, and help your sisters out, by sharing your stories!

TO MEDIA, BLOGGERS, AND LIST OWNERS:

I’ve made very few media commitments thus far. Do you have a column, show, mailing list, or blog audience? Would you like to do a feature, an interview, or post an excerpt? Please click here to let me know. There is a ton of material, including case studies, video, and pictures.

Upward and Onward

Thank you all so much for the last three years. It’s been incredible.

The best is yet to come :)

Tim

What a great way to start off the year, with a brand new mind, body, and soul. The book is packed with so much good stuff, the easy slow-carb diet, kettlebell swings, and the brilliant section on polyphasic sleep. I’ve tried many other diet & exercise programs, Atkins, P90X, etc, and this one is by far the easiest and most realistic to follow. All of the other programs make it impossible to go to lunch with coworkers or dinner with friends w/o feeling like a complete social outcast. Thanks for all your hard work and ignore all the haters out there, I am living proof that your $*** works!

Not to toot my own horn too much Tim, but after a decade and a half of non-dogmatic experimentation on myself and willing friends, you’re the only author out there (excepting Martin Berkhan I suppose) who I’ve always agreed with 100% on training and diet, and your fantastic results should be ample evidence for the skeptics out there. I’m really excited to see what can be learned from this new book and will spread the word far and wide. Thank you in advance for all the diligent work and for sharing so freely.

This is the book I’ve been waiting for! Congrats on your second book. I hope it’s as successful, if not more, than the 4 Hour Work Week. After the book comes out I’d love to be a case study of some of the material, either to be posted on your blog or possibly an updated and revised edition down the road. Are you going to be looking into anything like that? Have a good one.

I can’t wait to read the book. The running chapter should be really great to read since I’m reading up on marathon training information and tactics since I’ve just started training for my first marathon. Nice title and great cover, maybe I won’t have to hide the book’s title while reading it this time.

      Hey Kim,

I would post the direct link to the site but I guess it comes off as spam. But you can check it out by googling “paincenter.stanford” which will bring you to their home page. Do a search for “Human body + pushing the limits”

You will find a video about a woman that had pain for years that wouldn’t go away, trying many different types of massage, therapy, accupuncture, etc. But researchers at the pain center in stanford have found methods of reducing the pain by 50% which is about the same to what most pain medications will do.

It is what the Shaolin monks do so they can perform the physical feats that the average person can’t. They study them in the video. I’ve trained with them and they are truly amazing. A 74 year old master was breaking bricks and along with other things.

Check it out, it really interesting!!!

First of all: congratulations on your new book! A new milestone in your life, I can imagine. I’m a big fan of your innovative and creative way of looking at things. You seem to look at the (old, ‘normal’) reality (work, weight, health) with a curiosity as if it were the first time you ever saw it: In your eyes a workweek of 50 hours looks like 4. This makes great changes possible. Thank you for it! I will order some copies of your new book. I really loved your last one. Keep up the good work!

Having been introduced to you just prior to the launch of 4HWW your marketing strategies on how you amassed a huge following is an amazing case study in itself. It’s one thing to have a plethora of knowledge/experience and totally another to have the wherewithal and marketing savvy to spread your message and create community by challenging the status quo – such as you did. I’ve really enjoyed the insightful blog posts as well as the many fantastic resources. I look forward to reading the new book and if it’s anything like the four-hour work week I will be happy to endorse it…Talk soon

    Congratulations on the achievement, Tim.

When you were out in Cape Town, I asked you what you would do differently to market the book, and as you said then, you’re more or less following the same path as you did the first time round. If it ain’t broke, right?

The 4-Hour Workweek was a revelation and strolls into my top 5 business books ever. I have no doubt you’ll knock this out the park, and even if I don’t follow through on everything I read, I trust it’l be a riot to read, nevertheless.

    Good luck.

Does the “Sleep 2 hours per day” blurb refer to polyphasic sleep (i.e. “uberman” sleep?).

If so, did you try it?

I spent 4-5 months of my life addicted to the polyphasic pseudoscience pushed by internet communities and bloggers and essentially wasted half a year attempting to “adapt” to the uberman schedule. It was the biggest mistake of my life and it screwed over my health in remarkable ways.

I’m now a chronic insomniac, went through a suicidal phase, have little to no energy or sex drive… I’m slowly improving (doctors, therapy — I’m absolutely not kidding), but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. (My early 20s age may have something to do with my apparent susceptibility to chronic sleep deprivation).

You know, I balked at the price tag, thought I’d wait for it on Kindle, but then I thought, how much time and energy did 4HWW and this blog add to my life? How much did I benefit from Tim’s training recommendations, when I found that I could build nice muscles and strength in a month?

How much money have I saved following Tim’s advice from 4HWW?

I admit that I’m skeptical about some of Tim’s claims, and I wish some of his advice had more rigorous evidence to back it up, but I’ll give it a go.

I went ahead and ordered two signed copies. Looking forward to getting them!

    Hey Tim,

    Awesome to see this.

    A couple of questions:
    1) Can you get signed copies through Amazon?
    2) I like to order Kindle versions of books when I can (I think book form is silly these days — IMHO). What incentives, if any, are there to pre-ordering a Kindle/Nook/eReader version? (I’m preordering anyway, just curious)
    3) Does the Q&A apply for 5 e-versions, # of e-versions equivalent to 5 books, or none?

    Also, side-note:
Your “notify me” button at the bottom should be when somebody responds to your specific post, not whenever anybody adds a comment to this post. This way I will know if anybody (particularly, you) is (are) actually addressing my questions or not.

I noticed just now, after I ordered two signed copies of the book – the price just dropped on the signed copies by about 4 bucks a piece?

How do we know when the 3000 are gone? I might snag a few more at the lower price.

    Hey Tim,

I’m stoked about the new book. This is a serious question btw.

Have you explored any form of male organ enlargement during your physical experiments? I know a lot of so-called experts dismiss it as a crock but I haven’t seen any real long-term studies on it. Is this explored in your book at all?

I have seen some underground online communities/forums that explore it as seriously as some of the pickup artist guys do dating, so I think there may be something there. Google “bib hanger forum” and see for yourself if you haven’t already.

Although I’m sure a lot of people will dismiss this as the proverbial b.s., there are a lot of guys who would love to see something like this thoroughly tested and presented to the mainstream by an authority such as yourself. Aside from the obvious size enhancement, there are also reported added sexual benefits such as improvement or the cure of erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation. Not to mention just better overall sexual health.

I know as an avid follower of your blog that you pull no punches and are very straightforward when it comes to helpful information (especially in the sexual and physical arenas). I’d love to hear your thoughts on this in the comments.

    Thanks

      Hi Casper,

Signed every last one. I can’t understand how authors can live with themselves if they outsource signatures. Totally not cool. I actually made a meditation of sorts out of it and did about 100 at a time, chipping away at odd moments. Strangely, it was kind of fun.

What’s the go with ordering for kindle, still going to be released in dec like the hardback?

The reason I ask is that I’m in Australia and amazon and B&N book orders can take weeks to get here, particularly at xmas and don’t want to wait another few weeks after ordering!

Congrats on the new book. Considering I have the original, audio, and updated versions of 4HWW, ordering 5 copies of this version seemed the next logical step. Hopefully I can put it to good use and have something to contribute to the revised version in a couple years like I did with 4HWW. Thanks for including my story. (see p 173).

      Hey,

What’s the scoop on Kindle vs. Hard copy and how that affects the author’s take home?

Nate’s post sparked a thought……kindle prices are almost always 1/3 or so of full retail (who actually pays full retail other than in airports these days?)

perhaps the kindle affect only impacts the publisher?

Maybe $9.99(typical kindle book price) is a sum of all the margin made along the way by amazon, the publisher, and the author……?

Would be interested to know your thoughts on this Tim…..as you are always very willing to share insights into profits, structures, and who all has “fingers in the pie”

    Hello Tim,

I just ordered 2 signed copies ($31.06 what a deal!) of the hardback because I love your writing style and I am not cheap.

I never wrote or commented before because it is a dumb/pointless way to communicate so this is probably it. The Elizabeth Gilbert TED talk was great. I don’t expect impossible things of artists, so I will still like your work if your book flops.

I look forward to watching it selling millions and opening doors for your future success.

I am excited that you are excited so stay happy.

    In thoughts,

    JoeM

P.S. Are you able to comment as to Ray Porter doing the narration of this book too? I can’t find a thing about this no matter how many different phrasings I put into Google – he is the man.

      Hi Howard,

I suppose they’ll have to wait for the book. Rest assured, there are plenty of studies. 500+ references, if I’m not mistaken. In the meantime, you can ask them to point you to the “scientific research” they cite. I’ll be debunking a lot of that stuff. There is good science out there, but there is much more bad science.

It’s so nice to finally know the name of the book. I used your body building suggestions with significant success this summer (although I added far fewer pounds of muscle than you did, must be the lack of No-Xplode).

I was wondering if the book had any suggestions on how to stay the same. I know many people are looking to bulk up or cut weight, but I’ve hit the Greek ideal proportions as determined by my wrist size and would rather remain the same size and shape.

I also wondered if there were any suggestions for people who play sports that favor one side of the body such as fencing or squash. I haven’t been disciplined enough with these to become imbalanced but I’m sure that’s not something to look forward to.

I know I could wait until December, but I might be in Israel (preordered to Pittsburgh) and you’ve piqued my interest.

    Thanks

(I’m in for two by the way)

Unfortunately, I also don’t have access to the SD ports here. Surely there’s some other way for me to get my goodies? Maybe I can forward the order confirmation email?

    Prost!

    Tim,

First of all I’m so happy and grateful that after following your diet and exercise articles in the past year I’ve lost 30 lbs, improved my physical wellness tremendously and I’ve become healthy as a horse!

All that time since then I’ve never gone back to the hospital for illness! This new book of yours is as good as bought!

I’m definitely in better shape now (at 29) than I was 10 years ago thanks to becoming obsessed with rock climbing. I’m always looking for ways to get leaner and meaner — can’t wait to see what you’ve got in there!!

Thank you so much in advance for all the hard work and self-experimentation you did to bring us this invaluable information. Truly — thank you.

As a small thank you for all the well researched, free info on your blog I ordered 5 copies (two separate orders though, hope that is no problem).

The tips on hacking sleep have been pure gold – cottage cheese before bed, who’d have though it would make such a difference. I even buy it at local grocery stores when on vacation now.

Thanks for putting the time into passing it all along. It is changing lives, though I can only account first hand for one.

Particularly looking forward to the treatise on sleep. It seems we share some common difficulties shutting down at night.

I’m really astonished: “I test everything on myself so you don’t have to.” and “How to produce 15-minute female orgasms”. That might be something really cool to do: male produces 15-min-female-orgasm to himself. :)

    Hey Tim,

In for 5! When I was browsing through Twitter last night on my phone, I glanced over your post on your new book, at first I thought, “Eh, if he get’s bad press on this then it may negate a lot of valid ideas in 4HWW.”

It’s risky because topics like sex and fitness have been covered heavily and their are such ranging ideologies that I’m curious what are you bring to the table? I’m a bit skeptical, until I see reviews, but I can’t help but be curious.

      Hi Jay,

I’m sure a lot of people feel the same way. I decided to dive into a completely different topic for a lot of reasons. One was to remove the ability to rely on my past success with 4HWW. It was rewarding, but I want to stretch myself elsewhere.

You did all the testing on your own body? Everyone’s body is different. In the future, even aspirin will vary from one person to another. How can you say that what works for one person will work for all? A little skeptical, but very interested in learning more.

    Hey Tim,

You should you have a lot of international readers. What about us? I tried to get your last book T4HWW, ordered in all the major books shops, but didn’t get it. The 4 hour Body looks like a must have and I am extrememly interested in your body hack ideas. Can’t wait to read it.

Please make sure it’s available in India. I think outside US where Amazon like services are not so prominent, a prined version is the only way to read.

I believe like me all your international fans will be happy if they can read the book as soon as they can.

    Please take care of it.

My best wishes for your new book,

    Hey Tim,
I’ve followed your stuff for a long time, pre-4HWW. I’ve implemented a lot of your hacks, and have been constantly amazed at what our bodies are capable of, with very little effort (I held my breath for almost 5 minutes — that’s bizarre!)

My issue, however, is confidence. Does this book do anything (other than making you feel like a better person) to touch on this? I’ve heard that most confidence is a facade anyhow, it just takes a bit of acting, but I’ve been plagued by this issue for as long as I can remember. It’s difficult to succeed when you have no confidence, though it seems to be something you have in copious amounts!

I already bought 3 books, but I was hoping you could tell me sooner whether you touch on this seemingly simple brain-hack.

Really looking forward to reading your new book!

The title, however, feels a bit contrived. Was the decision yours or the publisher’s (feels like a committee of MBAs agreed upon it)? The title is incongruous with your reputation as an honest broker who gives people the straight scoop without corporate BS on various topics of “life hacking.”

Always remember, “Tim Ferriss” is the franchise, not some cute “self-help” title. You can try to build up equity (as the MBAs would say) in this 4-Hour-thingy but at the end of the day, without you it’s nothing.

The 4-Hour schtick worked fine for the first book because it was new and original. Slapping the same type of title on the second book makes it look like you’ve sold out. Frankly, the “4 Hour Body” title feels a bit shlocky.

If your aim is simply to make a few bucks then keep the title. If your aim debunk erroneous conventional wisdom on fitness and health and help thousands of people “reach their genetic potential” (which btw should be in the sub-title), then lose the title.

    ????? ??????!!

PS: Time to therefore to start also building some Google juice with the domain http://www.timferriss.com

    • Tim FerrissSeptember 30th, 2010, 1:17 am

I’ll be talking much more about the title decision, etc. after the book comes out. There are good reasons it was used. Not the perfect title, but better (for reasons I’ll explain) than a host of others.

I am a big fan and just pre-ordered 5 from the UK (express delivery, bit pricey but worth it). I really couldn’t wait until Feb 2011 for the UK version.

The only other thing I ever pre-ordered was an iPad. So you are on-par with Steve Jobs in that respect ;-)

Your timing couldn’t be better really. I just turned 40 the day you announced your new book!
Also being a new father (5 month old baby), I noticed that my new lifestyle which involves less sleep, working from home (thanks 4HWW), more hectic days and more ‘comfort food’ has had quite an impact on my weight. I recently had quite a reality check trying to squeeze myself into a suit, after months of working in shorts and t-shirts. It felt more like trying to get into a scuba suit ;-)
Your latest guest Blog post about gluten free diets really convinced me it is time to change a few eating habits. So now I am looking forward to your next body hacks, because in my head I am still 25 … I just need to convince my body of this ;-)

I hope you blow your own sales targets completely out of the water after all the hard work you put into this.

    Cheers

    Hi Tim,

some months ago I was talking with a very special Lady who’s an astrologist and she said to me that there are a certain kind of people who’re born with a certain kind of “configuration” that makes them be essential in the evolution of societies.

And when I see you coming up with this kind of project, I think I can both recognize that what she says is really true and identify you as one of such “catalysts”. You did it with the 4HWW and probably will do it again now.
    The World needs such initiatives.

If you keep up with the pace of 1 book (or similar) every 3 years, we will see a very different World soon. And as I wrote my previous sentence, something came to my mind:

“what if you find a way of monitoring your readers evolution (like working habits, income, health, frequency of vacations) ?”.

In other words: describe our lives (with some questionnaires, just an example) before getting our hands on your book(s) and then refresh that info within a year or 2 after reading it”. We could apply some serious data mining on the data and… just an idea.

I was going to order the book to my just-arrived kindle but then I remembered those don’t count for this purpose, so I just bought a few hardcovers that will serve as Christmas gifts ;) .

    Blessings.

Interesting that on Amazon UK they do list the book, but it has a slightly different title:

“The 4-Hour Body: The Secrets and Science of Rapid Body Transformation”

It has a release date of Februrary 2011, it’s paperback, and it’s reported to have 320 pages, instead of the 592 pages reported by amazon US.

I wonder if Amazon UK data is correct.

We need more of this, more people trying out food/supplements/exercise/sleep routines in a controlled, scientific manner to get a wide consensus on true correlations. Ideally, we could record all of our behavior (all heart beats, vital signs, blood contents, sleep duration, food intake, time taken etc.) and we could really see some correlations jump out, the more data the better. The more stuff that gets measured, the more data and correlations that can be seen. We’re still in the infancy of discovering correlations to optimize our health. A general consensus so far seems to be of the evolutionary basis for a more paleo-style diet of natural-grown/raised meat, vegetables, fruits and nuts.

Daniel, were you charged, or was the total amount just “authorized” on your card? Just to be clear, as the two are not the same. B&N will want to ensure you CAN pay by authorizing, but they shouldn’t charge now, at least based on what I understand. Please let me know, and thanks.

Tim, I love your work and recommend it to everyone. I am a huge fan and am very excited about the book. I went ahead and purchased a physical copy to help you out, knowing I will maybe use it as a reference. I understand you want to sell as many physical copies as possible, and that publishing is a bit backwards, I would however request that you inform us of a digital/audio pre-order as well. I don’t need another book to carry around. I have a laptop, an ereader and two cellphones. I will buy whatever digital format you want to sell it in, I do ask 2 things, 1st, if possible please add Audible to your release list on day one. I have over 200 books from them and it works well now on both android and iphone. 2nd Please include a set of pdf charts that I can access via the web, or audibles website. Again I already prepaid for a physical copy, and It may never get opened. I love reading and listening to audio books and they only way I can do it is on the go. Thanks in advance!

I’ll definitely buy this book, but it’s not available ’till February on UK Amazon – and there’s no Kindle pre-order.

I’m not buying any more dead-tree books, so it would be cool if a Kindle version was available as soon as possible for the UK market.

I just finished university and am working on chapter “automation” of the 4HWW. Now I am quite often asked what my future plans are, what kind of job I am looking for. Thanks to you I have a hard time explaining ;-) !

Thanks for the inspiration and opening my eyes to the opportunities out there! I’ll let you know how it goes.

    Die besten Grüße aus Stuttgart

PS: I gave some copies of the 4HWW to friends, but unfortunately the German translation isn’t nearly as good as your original style. I’ll stay with the English version.

    Thoughts:
    1. It would be funny if the chapter on sex was called “the 4 hour orgasm”
    2. I’m curious to see what the sleep thing is all about. I know Thomas Edison slept very little, only taking short naps as needed.

There ist one aspect to fitness which I never found mentioned. I like to do TaeKwonDo (ITF) 2-3 times a week which keeps me quiet in shape, but I would like to increase my duration and strength additionally (not necessarily both at the same time). All the “minimal efford plans” include long resting periods. Would my TWD training for example mix up your suggested 4hww muscle build training, or could I just do it in between?

ps.: Do you read the comments of older blog posts?

Thanks for you effort und Grüße aus Deutschland :)

Can we expect this in Kindle format worldwide?

The extended, new version of the 4HWW has been hard to come by on Kindle, at least in the UK, which is a bit of a shame, as I’ve stopped buying paper books..

  • AndreasSeptember 30th, 2010, 5:14 am

Ordered as here in the UK we’ve got a big delay until it’s released. But I’ll get it shipped over!

If you’re planning a next book would love to hear more about how you hack and break down things into experiments. Would be great to apply it to more areas in life. E.g. Cycling – breaking it down to the things that make a real difference to someone’s performance rather than the myriads of instructions you are given (Using 80/20 rule). You’re unique blend of “lifehacking” and “skill hacking” is not something I’ve seen elsewhere!

I am ordering the book (3 copies) right now! In the 4-hour work week, Tim suggested I try just one technique on rapidly gaining muscle. Having been working out since 14 at first I didn’t believe in the claim (both his and the book he suggested), but thought that I don’t have much to lose, with 30-day program. At worst I would have another book/technique scratched off my list of things to try. In short, I lost 10 lbs of fat and gained 10lbs of muscle in just 3 weeks of following the program, while gaining 20-30% strength and besting my own bench press all time record (went from 285 to 315lbs). At 28 I looked and felt better than ever and without a single injury. Ever since I turned all of my friends and relatives who would listen to it, thanks to Tim.

Cant wait for the book, especially the 15 minute female orgasm part ;)

    Dear Tim,

I’m very excited about this new book.

I designed a weight gain challenge of my own about 18 months ago. Mine was 15 pounds in 10 days. I made it, in the process I ate about 10 kg of hommus, and unfortunately I ended up with some kankles… this was only temporary :)

At the pinnacle I was lifting 55kg dumbells on each arm (flat press). Chest measured 105cm.

Best of luck with the new book!

    Cheers,

    Dave

    Tim,
Congrats on the book release. One question. When I spoke with you at SXSW, we talked a bit about sleep, and how I’d love to sleep less but can’t function well. It was after your Art of Speed talk, and Mike Cassidy mentioned he slept only 4 hours (I think) per night. Your experience was the same as mine, and you said that unfortunately you needed a lot of sleep as well.

Did you discover something new since then or is the 2 hour sleep thing more of a short-term approach that doesn’t work for longer stretches?

I was planning to tackle your book and Art de Vany’s upcoming book on the evolutionary diet as part of my goal to understand personal health better. What’s your take on de Vany’s approach?

      Hi Roman,

Art is very, very smart. I’m eager to read it as well. He and I have similar approaches in many respects. I just don’t emphasize power laws as much. As for sleep, I have learned a lot since that panel. My preference is still long stretches of sleep per night, but I’ve learned to do some cool stuff that can be extended long-term.

I just ordered my copy! I was glad to still catch the “Hard Cover – Signed Edition” this morning, so I’m looking forward to a good read. I gave away two copies of 4HWW, but I’m keeping the 4HB signed edition all to myself, until I find my next worthy cause!

Over the course of last year and a half I went from 155 to 170, but I can’t see where it went (other than a small-doesnt-look-like-15lbs-went-there-bulge in my gut). I’m guessing it was the transition out of my 20′s and into the 30′s! Maybe this will change my workouts, limit my gym visits, get back my 6pack, and more importantly, I can spend more time with the kiddo’s (both under 4) and wife. BTW, do you cover material that is kid friendly?

    Hi Tim,

You did EXACTLY what I have been wanting to do myself! I’m greatly looking forward to reading the book.

I bought seven. I bought two immediately after reading the part of the post saying to buy one, and if you buy two, you get free shipping.

Then I read further, and read about the deal for five. So I went back and bought five more.

Now I have no idea if the Q & A will truly be helpful, but since I can probably sell the books for more than I pay, and ESPECIALLY since I’ve bought many copies of your first book and given them away, I’m beginning to think seven is not enough.

If you would ever like to make a body optimization case study out of a 43 year old entrepreneur mother of five who lost 20 pounds in about six weeks following stuff on your blog and a couple of other tweaks of my own, let me know. I have the resources to pay for necessities and track progress. I guess I would only need consultation to speed up what I will learn out of your book.

I will be looking to see if there are any radical transformations of 40+ year old women with multiple children :-) .

My case study would be a great way to expand your market a bit — you could syndicate it to the mommy blog world :-) .

I hope you reach all your goals for the book.

    Blessings!

    Well, I’m in!

To tell you the truth, I don’t really believe what you promise in the cover. I’m not even really so interested. I guess there are many ‘if’s and conditions in order for them be real. And even if there is some magic pill that can turn me into a superman in no time, there are probably strings attached than only a long term study would reveal. So I would think twice before swallow it myself.

But, I really like the way you approach life and life experiments. I have extracted many interesting ideas (and they have triggered others :) from your first book (which I didn’t really buy) and your blog. Almost every post contains a relevant/interesting concept and initiate some personal research or discover an area to explore. (Hard to find elsewhere)

And I’m sure this book will not be different. Even if the promises sound outrageous and I will not take the magic pill myself, I’m sure that there is a lot of interesting stuff inside that deserves to be read and which I will partially extrapolate for personal use.

So even with the int’l shipping rates, I owe you this one ;)
    Good luck!

    Hey Tim,
I urge you to please make your suggestions a bit more scientific, by creating a forum for people testing this. It would be very easy for you to ‘crowdsource’ the experiments, by having people post daily/weekly what they experimented with. On aggregate test what works (minus the occasional prankster). That way you can minimize (but not eliminate) before and after frauds. It’s a quick website to set up (iphone app even), and if it works, you will have invaluable medical research. Remember whom you heard this from. I want my 5%! :)

It inspired me to start a Non Profit Organization that has ONE mission to care for it’s members’ needs, which will include salary, housing, transportation, health care, food, and new compassionate friends. We can do all of this online, global, and with a simple t-shirt. And, we will raise funds internally by using this simple company t-shirt that’s on the website. I’m from the UK, so just a couple of questions.

When this becomes available in the UK, will it be the same version as whats available here?

It’s just a comment above refers to there being a different title and lower page count. Will there be a load of content missing?!

Secondly, again that comment said about it being released in the UK in February 2011… that’s a fair way off… if I order now, when can I expect to receive it? December?

Thanks a lot Tim and I hope this is even more of a success than the last book.

At least 1500 people will gauge my progress!: I was just interviewed for a blog that will monitor my progress each week on my 31 day quest to lose 20 lbs. I have taken each tidbit from the book on the subject and I want to make sure that my daily regimen is congruent with what you recommended so I can fairly test your regimen in the book and so my feedback does not unfairly hold you up against an inaccurate light.

How do I get my 1 page daily regimen schedule to you for a 30 second at most review?

    Lies…all lies.

Any man who knows how to give a woman a 15-minute long orgasm would be happily married to a woman who rarely, if ever let him put his clothes back on and leave the house.

Pre-ordered, really looking forward to reading this. Also looking forward to getting rid of that god%$#@ last tiny bit of fat that has been covering my abs for the last 10 years.

I’ll consider doing some before-and-after pictures using your techniques, but I don’t think I want to be on TV. My looks might draw people in, but my voice might make them change the channel.

You should come to Alaska one of these days. I’ll buy you a beer. Maybe two.

Did I just become one of your 1000 True Fans?

    Congrats Tim! Pre-ordered…

Your first book changed my life, I am changing lives of other people by recommending your book worldwide….even in Bulgaria…The book was published in Bulgarian but not a great translation and not a great marketing either (unfortunately)….Word of mouth is doing better..

    Good luck in your adventures!

    Hey Tim!

I LOVES “The Four-Hour Work Week” and have been looking forward to this book for quite some time. I am totally stoked! I am still a poor college student but if I can work it into the budget I will totally buy one. Thanks for all of your help.

Ordered, but when will be an Spanish version? BTW the shipping costs overseas are almost equal as the book price :(

Tim, have you thought about the possibility to offer signed versions of the book in different languages (Spanish, Japanese, etc…) I’m a Spanish blogger, and I will be glad to feature this book in my blog…

Looking forward to unveil the secrets inside…

    Hi Tim,
Yes it was a debit from my account – €20.44 to be exact with shipping (I’m in the Slovak Republic) It’s fine though, just wanted to make sure that other customers didn’t have the same expectation. p.s. congratulations on getting another book out.

Impressive. 408 potential buyers in 24 h. I will not buy it. I did learn enough with the 4HWW (excellent achievement by the way: parsimonious and insightful, and has an excellent data base). On the other hand, 15 min. orgasms!! Who wants that?

Something is lacking in the transfer of your lifestyle design. Not everybody has you IQ, emotional intelligence, attitude and enthusiasm. You tell great stories but this does not empower people.

On the other other hand, Tim, why are you added Google Ads to your page? It is not your style.

    Hi Tim!

I used to train at AKA, got fixed by Dr. Janzen due to your article which saved my life and body, and saw you at BiztechDay twice. I just ordered 5 copies, and I can’t wait to read it.

I really appreciate the great advice on writing you gave me last time. It’s helped tremendously. I had wanted to ask you about my nerve problem, but was too embarrassed or ashamed to talk about it.

But, I realized that if anyone would know the answer, or know the people who could help, it would be you. I had axillery nerve damage in my deltoids 4 years ago, which lead to complete lost of my shoulder muscle and other dysfunctions in the body. I almost became a cripple due to this complications involved with nerve damage.

I saw over 50 doctors at this point, but no one has really been able to help. I tried to get my hands on HGH or stem cell, but they said there was no way for me to get access. If you know anything at all that could help with regrowing nerves/muscle, I would not be able to thank you enough!

    Hi Tim

Just ordered 5 signed copies – even though the shipping to Europe is expensive and takes forever.
Will keep one book for myself, and give the other four books away. That should spread some Christmas joy …

Hope you will do an audiobook version also. 4HWW has been on my Nokia N900 for ages, and I have listened to it several times already.
