For anyone who reads this comment… applying for a credit card only lowers your score by a couple of points. my wife tracked her credit scores before and after she applied for a cc and I think it dropped 2 points on 2 of the credit companies, and 3 points on the 3rd. The better reason to not apply for a credit card is if you are planning on opening a big line of credit soon, like a mortgage or a car loan.
