In today's business world the key factors that are shaping our office spaces are Sustainability, Mobility and Flexibility. Work places that are sympathetic to office workers in the twenty first century are still few and far between, however perceptions are changing from businesses who no longer see offices as a liability, but rather a key branding tool.

It's amazing how offices are becoming designed more and more like rooms in a house, with more and more colour being used, rich and bold wallpapers instead of bland white walls and the space is much more open and used so much more efficiently.

Great article. I recently read a book about pursuing one’s passions in order to unleash your full potential, both on a personal level and a professional one. The main theme of the book was to make sure that your work environment fulfilled three main requirements (for a successful and happy work life): autonomy, challenge, and purpose. I made a career transition several months ago and a big part of my decision to switch companies revolved around these three essential concepts. Although the monotony of the contemporary 9-5 work culture has a tendency to creep up on you, I feel that it’s important to reevaluate your personal and professional goals every once in a while, which is why reading articles such as this is most important to those who aspire to rid themselves of the cubicle and venture into a work environment that is not bound by office dividers. One novel idea that I brought to my company is the concept of “Tea Time”. Our team sets aside approximately 20 minutes a day to brewing tea (go Teavana!) and just takes a break from the long work day. It helps to alleviate the stress associated with the day’s business affairs and enables everyone to open up and socialize on a more personal level. We are planning on moving to a bigger facility within the next couple months, and I hope to bring as much positive change into the work environment as I can, one innovation at a time.

it is true that alot of unwanted paperwork can be overwhelming, try what tim said, take a picture of it on your phone and label it, that way its always easily accessible and defeats having to search through piles to find one page... surely if its not important enough to take a picture of it, its not important enough to keep? throw it away/recycle it/feed it to the dog?

Really like the little courtyard space outside your office. It looks like a little oasis - definitely going to be stealing that idea from you! Thanks for the tips. :)
